How to do it!
  • Grab and run ProtonPlus from your package manager
  • Select steam and Install Luxtorpeda (I used v70.0.0 which is latest as of when I wrote this)
  • You should restart steam now so it will register the new compatibility tool
  • Set Beetle Ninja's compatibility to Luxtorpeda in the games properties page
  • Once you run the game you will be given a menu, Pick EasyRPG Player and OK
  • Then you can go into Games with Enter then Enter again to load Beetle Ninja
  • Enjoy!

At the time of writing i couldn't get it started on proton, so I found an alternative :) it may be different now though but ill leave this live on the off chance its needed

Honestly, I feel it is unnecessary. The game executable is compatible with WinXP even- old enough that Proton support is rock solid for it. What are the benefits to using EasyRPG instead?
