Game is Crashing (Fixed)
由 V 制作
Tips on how to deal with the game crashing to the desktop:

During my Gameplay, I've encountered two possible times during which the game keeps crashing, and come up with a manual fix, that needs no mods or patches.

1) First one happens at the end of the cut scenes, or when you want to enter / exit an area that requires a lot of rendering. (Fast travel to another city, or leaving a building).

To fix this, do as following:
(Either before launch, or in-game settings)
Options > Video > Frame Buffer Effects > OFF.

Turning this setting OFF, will make the game look darker, and less appealing, but some of you may actually enjoy it this way.

You DO NOT need to have this option turned off the whole time however!

I keep this setting ON, most of the time, but when i encounter the crash, i just re-launch the game, load up the save file, turn the option OFF, then go through the cut scene or leave the area that previously crashed my game, and after i did such, i turn the FBE ON.

Also note, that it does not happen on every doors you want to go through, or every cut-scene, but it is wise, to save the game before those.

2) Second scenario. Since i take a lot of screenshots, i noticed that the game ♥♥♥♥-blocks you from taking SS's sometimes after you had taken some in your current play-through. Take a screenshot(s) > wait couple of minutes > try to take another one > the ss key doesn't work (no photos taken) > game crashes to the desktop.

This issue happens regardless of your Video settings, so this one is just a reminder that you should save the game often, before trying to become a photographer.

TL;DR
1) Options > Video > Frame-Buffer Effects > OFF
2) Save the game before entering / leaving major areas or watching any cut scenes.
3) If you take screenshots, make sure to save often, because in my case, the game keeps crashing and blocks me from taking more screenshots if i had taken some earlier, in my current play through.
4) If the fix (1) Fails, turn the V-Sync OFF, and put the "Texture Details" on Medium or Low.

Hey there, so I tried some of these fixes. But here is something that might help too. While I was playing around with the DA Tool set, I got an out of memory error. So, I applied the 4GB patch to that... that got me thinking. Since daorigins.exe is also 32bit, I wondered if the problem was that it had a 2GB memory limit and that was my trouble all along. So, I also applied the 4GB patch to the daorigins.exe and I haven't had any trouble playing with all the video settings on max in 4k.

I used this: https://ntcore.com/4gb-patch/ - maybe it'll help everyone else who wants to enjoy DAO.

@daneldupreez - Did you try putting the "Texture Details" to Low ? and V-Sync OFF ?

It worked for me, the game never crashes, even during cut scenes. Sometimes however, after loading the save states several times in the same play-through, the game textures will get ugly, or disappear entirely, and -- in my case -- the game will be prone to crashes despite the texture settings, so just reload the game, and you should be fine, loading the game like 30 times again.
