The large calibres do have slightly higher DPS, but drop off fairly significantly in their range. Different calibres can then serve somewhat different purposes. For example, the 42lb has an 8% higher DPS than the 24lb, but suffers an 18% shorter range. I am personally leaning toward the 24lb being the best for general-purpose warships and pirating. While the 36lb culverin comes out on top for fort sniping.
This also doesn't take into account that the large calibres are also heavy, and slow down your ship.
Distance is still 700, damage is now 1.7X, reload is 30, weight is 16lbs on the description.
I also have 48 pound cannons which have
1600 Distance
14X damage
50 Sec Reload
80 Weight
Seem to be more ship will be added for futured DLC. So far i managed to get the Holy Mercy which is a Royale Galleon, fully upgraded with 32 pounder cannon.
1/ The uniqueness as the only ship sail in the Caribbean.
2/ Easy to acquire. Your starting ship is enough.
3/ The ship with history that Aruba requires you to provide, this ship fit the bill.
