Intro
Spoilers ahead!
This guide is for players who have completed the game at least once and have started a new game. Most of the content below is only available in the second playthrough (New Game +).

Explicit spoilers are hidden but reading ahead will still spoil your experience. Proceed with caution!

All of the items and materials in this guide are referenced by their canon names. If you forget what an item or material is called pick it up and hover over the sky for ten seconds.
Sidequest #1: Pharmacist
The goal of this puzzle is to find a cure for the bloodleaf infestation afflicting your visitors. You will need to build a potion tank (there's a new Request tab in your Build Menu you can use to filter sidequest-related items. You're told in the pamphlet that the potion contains bloodleaf. The other two ingredients are randomized in each playthrough.

When you create a potion, the number of red Xs to the left of the potion indicates how many incorrect ingredients are present. The order of the ingredients does not matter.

After you solve the puzzle, create ten potions and sell them to adventurers. Eventually Count Cerise will visit your town with another letter. Take it to earn the achievement.
Sidequest #2: Tactician
This sidequest introduces a new version of the Eye Stalker whose level is always two levels higher than the level of your town. You will have to defeat this boss six times, once with each class of visitor. This one isn't really a puzzle - just build training grounds for your visitors, then delete structures to decrease the level of your town and nerf the boss. The level of the new Eye Stalker is not "locked in" when you assign the quest so it's best to wait until it's defeated before restoring your town. If your adventurers seem reluctant to engage, creating guilds and cancelling other quests can help to speed things up.

The new Eye Stalker will not disappear from your map after the final defeat, but will eventually show up at your town with a letter.
Sidequest #3: Entertainer
Another not-puzzle. This one is rather time consuming, as you will first need to gather the materials to build all three structures, then wait until you have sold 5,000 tickets. After you've completed the quest a kobold will appear to sell you a letter for 125K.
Sidequest #4: Cryptologist
After defeating the Blind Guardian and reading the pamphlet it gives you, you will unlock a snowglobe-shaped structure. Build it. If you've read the pamphlet and it isn't immediately clear what the bar graph pictures are referencing click the base of the structure (the part that looks like a rectangular speaker with an element symbol inscribed on it).

NOTE: This quest seems to have been tweaked in the v2.1 update so the info above may no longer be correct. Per the update note: "The signal catcher now works a little differently. Once it gets a signal, you hold click on it for a second. After you do that, then it sets ALL elements to 0 and unlocks the signal."
Sidequest #5: Archaeologist
After defeating the Diamondback and reading the booklet that it brings you, you will unlock a shovel. This will appear on the world map. Click on the shovel and select the first location indicated in the pamphlet, then click on an empty quest slot.

Digging in the correct spot will give you a scrap of paper. Digging in the wrong spot will give you a few materials. The pieces may need to be dug up in chronological order, though I haven't tested this.

The pictures in the pamphlet depict Settlemoon as it once was. Many of the areas pictured have changed significantly on the current version of the World Map.

The cost of the quest depends on the location of the dig; use this to verify that you have the right spot!

The Story of Settlemoon
Settlemoon's story is told non-chronologically and is mostly conveyed through pictures, so some of the details are a bit fuzzy. This is my interpretation:

Settlemoon's Development
Settlemoon is a short-lived MMORPG created by Luna and "Butterfly" around 1998. The co-creators appear to have considered many different game genres before deciding to create a game themed around the opposing forces of light and dark. They chose their avatars (a butterfly and a moth) in keeping with this theme. The light-dark theme was later expanded into the six-element system. Luna appears to have worked mainly on outlining and coding the the game, with Butterfly creating most of the art.

Gameplay
New players spawned in on the small landmass where the NG+ Eye Stalker now resides and chose a starter weapon which determined their class. Players had a finite amount of health, represented by hearts displayed in the corner of the screen. A second display featured moons, though it's not clear what these represented. The goal of the game seems to have been to defeat all of Settlemoon's bosses in co-op combat. The description text of the Steam backgrounds suggests that players had to navigate environmental obstacles to reach each boss. At least one section of the game involved platforming, with players taking fall damage if they failed a jump.

The NG+ Eye Stalker was the original first boss - as this boss can scale its level, it likely served as a training boss for new players. Per Rose's "Ultimate Boss Guide," the original order of the bosses was as follows: 1. Eye Stalker, 2. Blind Keeper (pre-blinding), 3. Keeper of Might, 4. Count Cerise, 5. A pink-and-black worm-like creature (likely the source of the pink-and-black slime pictured on the cover of the guide).

Settlemoon also had two opposing dragon bosses in keeping with its dark/light theme. The first was a blue and white wyvern associated with Night/Dark/Cold (the Keeper of Might). The other was a bipedal red dragon clad in metal armor associated with Day/Light/Heat. It seems that players could choose one of these factions to aid, for which they would be reimbursed in either silver coins (from the Keeper of Might), or gold rings (from the red dragon). The faction the player chose to support may have affected the appearance of their avatar.

Each dragon had an army of kobolds who resembled their master. There was also a third group of green kobolds who do not seem to have had a corresponding dragon (though they would later create one!). Only the green kobolds and a single red kobold appear in-game but the New Game+ end credits confirm that there is at least one blue kobold still around.

The Shutdown
After Butterfly dies or abandons the game, Luna struggles to keep it going on her own. Overwhelmed by pressure from players and unable to fully realize the vision that she and Butterfly dreamt up together, Luna shuts down the server. At the time of the shutdown, she was working on the red dragon's region; when the shutdown occurs this area of the game becomes corrupted, creating the Forgotten Guardian.

Rose was an avid Settlemoon player before the server shutdown. She has fond memories of playing the game with friends and decides to resurrect it. It's not clear how she does this but it seems as though she either manages to access the shut-down server or create an identical copy of the game. The player ("Catalyst") may be an admin enlisted by Rose to maintain this new server - the "stars" in the sky seem to represent player connections to the game.

Rose appears to have gained access to an unpolished version of the game that Luna worked on after the server shutdown but never released. When Rose returns to this new Settlemoon, she finds that she cannot connect with it as she once did. She blames this on changes that have been made to the game, such as the substitution of Magnum Spark for the Keeper of Might. (Ironically, she herself may be responsible for this - The Keeper of Might seems to have escaped to the "real world" through a portal. Rose's name is entered in the login screen, suggesting that she may have inadvertently freed the wyvern while attempting to gain backdoor access to Settlemoon's servers!)

The other bosses have also changed significantly since Rose last logged in. The Keeper of Might's lair has been taken over by the green kobolds, who have created Magnum Spark (the "Heir to the Keeper of Might") as a replacement for the vanished wyvern. The Blind Keeper now wears bandages over its eyes; the reason behind this is never explained but the eyes are partially un-bandaged in the end credits and appear undamaged, so the bandages may be an ascetic (or aesthetic!) choice. The pink-and-black worm featured in Rose's Boss Guide has been replaced by the Diamondback. (The Diamondback was designed prior to Butterfly's departure, but may not have been added to the game right away, as Rose seems to be unfamiliar with it!)

Upset that Settlemoon does not live up to her memories, Rose reaches out to Luna, who explains her decision to stop working on the game. Rose attempts to befriend Luna, but Luna rebuffs her. Hurt by this rejection, Rose decides to finish Settlemoon herself, modifying the game to reflect her vision of what it should be.

Luna does not approve of Settlemoon's resurrection but decides to let Rose's server remain open for a while to allow new and returning players to experience her creation. As the end of Settlemoon draws near, she makes one final addition to the game: a sunny arch with a butterfly cocoon, a tribute to her former co-developer. After players have defeated all of the bosses and experienced all of the seasonal events, Luna hosts a final server party before pulling the plug.

Rose is saddened by the loss of Settlemoon but comes to accept that she cannot recreate the feelings she once had for the game because she herself has changed. Rose was likely a child when the original game came out and the flag that appears on her wall in the final cutscene suggests that she may be transgender (which may explain why she chose a new avatar instead of recreating her original character!) Settlemoon may have provided Rose with socialization and escapism during a challenging time in her life, leading her to become overly attached to it.

The Revival
After the second shutdown the game is revived yet again by the Catalyst, with Luna's blessing. This version of Settlemoon contains new bosses, buildings, and mechanics. The Forgotten Guardian is re-imagined as a new boss which combines the features of the corrupted red dragon with those of its one-time rival, the Keeper of Might. This new form also features a pair of knobbed antenna, likely an homage to Butterfly. The Keeper of Might is revealed to have laid eggs prior to its disappearance, spawning baby wyvern familiars into the game.

Many of Settlemoon's former players join the new server but Rose chooses to leave Settlemoon behind and move on with her life. Luna, too, seems to have found peace; in the end credits she is shown relaxing in a gazebo, drinking tea and dozing.

Really nice and well written guide! I appreciate you putting the work and documenting all this.
And your story synopsis is great, helped me piece some stuff together I missed in my play through
OldManSpidey 1 月 3 日 下午 1:37
An important point of Sidequest #5 that is omitted (if I am observing what is happening correctly) is that you can only search for two pieces at a time, and you must search sequentially beginning with the first piece.

Example: You must have searched for and found pieces 1-7 before you can search for pieces 8 and 9. Then, until you have found pieces 8 and 9, you can not search for and retrieve pieces 10-12. If you try to search for and retrieve pieces 10-12, you will only receive materials in return.

I found out the hard way and wasted a ton of money and time wondering why I wasn't receiving the piece and only receiving materials, even if I dug at the correct spot and got the correct quest cost.

An easy way to tell what pieces are currently available to search for is by opening up the Sidequest #5 booklet. The pictures with the grayed-out Xs mean that those pieces have been successfully dug up, and the pictures with the yellow Xs mean that those pieces are available to be dug up.

@wriken lol yeah i think i was mostly being impatient, i did a little bit of both and they both worked out in the end. A thing i think that was strong though was using the ferris wheel from the next quest- that +16 keeps the visitor cap rlly high even without most of ur other buildings so that ur more likely to get ppl to accept the quest

@Queenofdragons6 Fixed!
Wriken  [作者] 2024 年 6 月 21 日 上午 9:58
@wolfdyke If I recall correctly it works either way! The level of the boss should fluctuate with your town level even after the quest has been assigned (please let me know if this does not work!)
Queenofdragons6 2024 年 6 月 20 日 下午 7:52
Getting piece 6 in sidequest 5 required a cost of 4440 for me.
wolfdyke 2024 年 6 月 8 日 下午 12:24
I think i half get it but i feel like your directions for sidequest 2 could be more specific - mainly: is it put on the quest, get them to accept it, then nerf the boss, and then repeat for each attempt; or is it train your town, make guilds to keep powerful townies coming back, nerf the boss, and then put the quest up? something a little more detailed step by step because i feel like im missing something.

Can confirm the above is correct; I just clicked once on a cookie while it was in the shop inventory.
