After hours of playing, here are a couple of things that have come up mid to late game that I’d like to share with others in the categories of:

  • Healing
  • Weapons
  • Fuel Production
  • Power Production
  • Harvesting Bots, Medical Beds, and Transport Drones
  • Supplying Forges
  • Colonist Relationships
  • Wood and Branches

Hope this helps you as much as it is helping me!

Healing
Highly recommend designating at least 3 of your survivors as the main healers. Make sure that your people have the option to eat medicine activated as this trait is often cleared out when preventing your characters from eating raw foods (medicine is a sub menu to the raw foods for some reason). This will allow your people to recover much faster, and give you the opportunity to force one of your designated healers to recover their health on their own so they can start healing others who are in need. Always target the priority of healing to people in your camp losing the most blood per hour (usually a blood drop signal and a message on their character screen about blood loss level). Some of your characters will have permanent injuries or infections which will always have them marked as in pain and may ultimately end in their death which is often unavoidable. Keep an eye on their status to see if this impacts any of your colonists, and have at least one grave plot ready just in case.
Weapons
Best way to find these are on scavenging (first image) or exploration (second image) runs. Making pistols is a resource intensive task and often requires hard to get components or materials. Scavenge as often as possible and give the long range rifles to your high combat skill personnel. During attacks draft them and place them in towers (third image) for the longest range attack possible. Best to have these snipers backed up with automated turrets or mech armor suits (third image) for your personnel to pilot.

Fuel Production
Throughout the game you will constantly encounter creatures that drop insect parts. The best time to farm these is during creature attacks, or if large groups of hungry critters gather and raid your farms. After butchering all the corpses for insect parts, store them in the Freezer (unlocked via research) and produce a mirrored stockpile of fermentation barrels (first image, unlocked via research). Turn off any ingredients requiring insect parts so they are only delivered to the fermentation barrels. This will give you a constant supply of fuel for your Exploration Balloons (unlocked via research), Flamethrower repairs (unlocked via research), Incendiary Mines (unlocked via research), Diesel Power Generators (unlocked via research), and any other piece of equipment or machinery requiring Fuel cans.

Power Production
Recommend having a compliment of 6 Windmills, 3 Diesel Power Generators, 4 backup power Batteries, 2 Power Cell generators, and 10 Solar Arrays to supply enough power for most mid to late game camps (image 1). Also recommend hooking up all defense guns or drones to motion detectors to save on power costs. Also recommend connecting all floodlights around exterior of the camp to a day/night sensor via a dedicated circuit (i.e. 10). This will also reduce the power consumption rates for your camp.

Power Production
Harvesting Bots, Medical Beds, and Transport Drones
Highly recommended. Frees up your colonist from many of the handling tasks that takes them away from their primary assignment duties. The transportation drones alone are a significant upgrade to moving things around your camp and too your camp (i.e. salvage missions). Although expensive, it is worth having two sets of androids, and up to four transportation drones with at least one or two automated medical beds.

Transport Drones
Supplying Forges
Generating metal bars in the late rounds can prove challenging. Best way to get over this challenge is to take on any scavenging mission opportunities (first image) close to your camp. If there are none close, best to take on any scavenging or debris related missions in the Exploration missions (second image, Physical skillset is key to getting the most from this), the scavenged scrap material can be used to immediately fill your forges or smelters (third and fourth images, recommend at least two mirrored) to make more metal which will be in very high demand and short supply as you past the early stages of the game. Also recommend looking out for meteor showers as they drop ore deposits (fifth image) near your camp for mining and converting into metal bars. At some point of the game one of the exploration tasks will also grant you the ability to summon a whether affect. Highly recommend meteor showers for the ore deposits.

Colonist Relationships
Eventually two of your colonists will become close and will likely marry. To get them to have happiness bonuses, put two beds side by side (image 1) with enough space on either side of the bed to allow the people to get into their respective beds. Make sure the room is at least double the standard with you would provide i.e. 8 x 12 squares so you also get the large room bonus. Adjust the work schedules and sleep schedules to make sure they go to bed at the same time so you also get the bonuses.

Couples Bedroom
Wood and Branches
Depending on the environment scenario chosen, wood and branches will either be in high supply or low. For desert environments, highly recommend growing your own farm of trees and bushes for a never ending supply of these two resources. Even in the lush forest type zones where trees and bushes are plenty, eventually you will have to venture farther away from the camp for wood. Having a farm of trees in or around your camp will eliminate the need for such long walks for lumber.

Conclusion
This is an ever expanding guide where I will continue to put useful tips and tricks as I play the game and learn more things that will help others overcome the challenges I faced. Many thanks for taking the time to review my brief guide, and feel free to let me know how this can be proved in the comments section!

What version are you playing?

My insects need to be smashed into oil and then I can make fuel on the workbench. I'm playing the original version with no rules and no mods.

Also, maybe describe your credentials:
What difficulty levels/scenarios have you beaten?
Have you gotten anywhere trying to win with 1 character?

Very basic guide. No discussion of teams or even which scenario/planet/moon you have had success with.
