On the 7th of March 2024 the DayZ development team added DayZ community item drops. In the coming months, there are also plans to expand on this initiative by publishing premium items.

The probability of receiving a Foiled Trading card instead of a standard card is 1 %. By receiving 100 cards chances are that you will receive one Foiled Trading card, and more if you are lucky, the rest 99 being ordinary cards. The total minimum value adds up as follows:
0.14 + 99*0.05 = 5.09 €

You can get 100 card drops from 33.3 Booster packs, costing exactly 33.3 * 0.12 = 4.00 €
So the difference is at least +1.09 € or +0.033 €/Booster pack excluding revenue shares, broker fees and your additional low-value item drops.

Furthermore the amount of Booster packs required to obtain one Foiled Trading card can be statistically calculated from the equation where the only solution is X ≈ 23. This is 10.3 amount of Booster packs or 10.3 * 0.12 = 1.24 € less than if you would have to buy up all available cheap Booster packs.

Likewise, when Booster Packs are priced high you can sell off your stocks.

Steam and content creators take a very small portion of market sales revenue. Usually only 2 or 3 cents for every booked/closed transaction. The Steam market accomplishes this by increasing the asked price of sell-orders. Sellers get less than what buyers are paying for items, and this translates into effective yield:

• 87 % remaining for Foil Trading Cards
  
• ~60 % remaining for Trading Cards

This leads to an inverse minimum profit requirement of 1:87% = 115 % for e.g. Foiled cards or you will effectively lose money on your market trade. This is common practice and should always be taken into account when planning your trading. You should always have a long term plan, even when Daytrading.

Trading cards specifically are normally dropped in two different ways. Paid games like DayZ give you half the number of cards in that game's set of cards. Other games only drop game cards based on your in-game purchasing. For every $9 USD spent (approximate) since the launch of the game's trading cards, you will earn one possible card drop.

Booster packs drop randomly based on your Steam level: +20% chance for every 10 levels and when you didn't receive a Booster pack in the past - but only when the Steam Community crafts Badges and levels up using Trading cards and depletes the available supply.

Over time, the prices of market items will fluctuate based on the total volume of transactions. Your ultimate goal is to take advantage of the market limitations to earn a profit. Buy cheap, sell high-priced later. But by using the above method and activating Booster Packs, you won't have to buy the ordinary trading cards which give less yield.

Currently, the pricing of Booster Packs is approximately comparable to the second-hand value of the Trading cards received. This is destined to change throughout 2024 as demand increases due to limited supply.

When you do get Foiled card drops, place a sell order on your asking price as soon as possible. Foiled cards are rare and constitute less than 1 % of all cards. Prices are prone to more rapid changes if items are rare, valuable and in demand.

For example in the last week the From Rify with love DayZ Foil Trading Card varied in price from 0.14 to 0.24 € in just 5-28 hours and then back again. Even if you only traded Foiled cards without earning them from Booster packs, you would have made a profit of +0.07 € per card.
