描述
The E7 Series (E7系) and W7 Series (W7系) are Shinkansen train types operated by JR East and JR West respectively, the former operates on the Jōetsu Shinkansen and Hokuriku Shinkansen, while the latter serves the Hokuriku Shinkansen only.

Jointly developed by JR East and JR West, the E7 and W7 series was introduced in 2014 prior to the Hokuriku Shinkansen's extension. Similar to the E5 series, the front of the car is designed to achieve optimal aerodynamic performance. The shape of the cab is reminiscent of the 500 series Shinkansen, a result of collaboration with JR West. Both types operate as 12-car formations, with the first car being Gran Class and the second a Green Car. 17 E7 Sets and 10 W7 sets were initially produced, with 11 E7 sets produced when JR East introduced the type to the Jōetsu Shinkansen in 2018. The 2019 East Japan Typhoon caused the Nagano Vehicle Center to be flooded and 10 sets were damaged and subsequently scrapped, as a result of this 5 additional sets were manufactured. 11 new W7 sets are set to be introduced by JR West upon the Hokuriku Shinkansen's extension to Tsuruga opening on March 16, 2024. To date, 39 E7 and 19 W7 sets have been produced, totalling 696 cars. This type operates all services on the two Shinkansen lines mentioned.
