Introduction
Since I haven't found any maps for open mode or sequence breaking, I figured I'd try to make one.

This guide provides Open Mode versions of all of the maps.

There are two versions of each map; a completed in-game screenshot of the map, and a custom map that includes additional information such as zenny amounts, ability requirements for items and traversal, and other things.
Each section includes a collection of each of the items, quests, bosses, zenny spots, and points of interest, marked with the abilities required to reach them.

Requirements
All traversal and item requirements are what I've found to be the minimum amount of abilities required from personal testing and may be incorrect. Knowledge and execution of the hidden wall jump tech is assumed.

Because listed requirements are minimum requirements, any "higher level" abilities should also work. For instance, an item with a requirement of Running Boots lvl1 is also obtainable with Air Dash, and an item with a requirement of High Jump is also obtainable with Double Jump or Jetpack.


  • There are two types of requirements to collect something; Hard requirements and Soft requirements.
  • Hard requirements are abilities that are directly used to get access to or open an item.
  • Soft requirements are abilities that are not strictly necessary to collect the associated item, but are required for the hard requirements for the item. For instance, double jump requires bomb, slide, and high jump OR slide and speed up boots lvl 2. So, an item requiring double jump will be listed as so: d*bhs/br2s
  • Hard requirements are listed directly, soft requirements are listed after a "*".
  • Soft requirements are not always listed.
  • Requirements are not always listed in the same order.
  • The provided requirements for Memine Challenges are only the minimum requirements for reaching the start and end points of the the challenge. Actually completing the a challenge may require more abilities depending on the game's difficulty level.

Some areas require certain abilities to be able to access. This is indicated by a large barrier before the area or an entrance to the area, as shown here:

Any points (mainly traversal markers) that include the required abilities indicate an obstacle that is cleared by that ability. For instance, a traversal marker with bs means that there is a slide passage that is filled with bombable blocks.

Coordinates
The maps are all listed with local coordinates, so I created the following abbreviations in order to distinguish between the different areas.
So, the full coordinates for location A5 in the Golden Hands Desert Base + The Sewerways area would be DB:A5.

  • In-map legends do not include any rewards from quests (zennies, badges, potions, crystals).
  • Quest/item lists include all obtainable items, zennies, and quests/challenges, including rewards from quests/challenges. The "total zennies" in these sections includes any zennies obtained from quests/challenges.
  • All bosses drop an Astral Gear. These are not included in the item lists, however Astral Gears that are simply collectible items are listed.

Notes
  • The Gallery of Mirrors area inflicts the Poison 1 status unless you have the Decay Mask from Gloamwood.
  • The Gallery of Souls area inflicts the Poison 2 status unless you have the Decay Antidote from Plagued Forest/Gloamwood.
  • It is theoretically possible to get through all of these areas without the Decay Mask/Decay Antidote, however the poison status effect will kill you when doing a melee attack with 1 hp.
  • Mapping the top part of the boss for Gallery of Mirrors requires d/j1/a.
  • In the room with the bridge, after getting into the small room with the EP Potion, exiting back into the bridge room will disable the pitfall.
  • The exit to Outer Moat has a strange quirk. When entering the room from Outer Moat, there are Vortex Gloves blocks below the bombable blocks. There is a trigger in the upper right portion of the room that removes those Vortex Gloves blocks. If you have Combustible lvl3, you can hit the bomb blocks through the Vortex Gloves blocks, giving access to the that trigger. Hitting that trigger from below lets you see the Vortex Gloves blocks disappear.

While it is technically possible to make it through the area without the Equilibrium ring, doing so is extremely difficult and not recommended. The Umbral Precipice and Phantasmic Palace areas do not apply the Deep Calenture effect.

I completed the map for Oasis.
I also completed Thanatara Canyon map and added traversal requirements/barriers in red text.

I think I'm going to include the Legends separately from the maps, see the Legend image. I will add update this if I require more icons.

I tried to make the text and correlated markings as obvious as possible. I definitely want to use the original maps, not recreate them, which means marking up the maps with text and such. However, I think this will end up having very crowded markings, making the readability suffer. I could make the text smaller/image larger, but I didn't want to make the text and markings require zooming in to read. I'm not good at visual design, so if anyone has any suggestions or ideas, please let me know.

Finally getting back to this. Got sick for a while, played some other games, finally felt like coming back to this.

After thinking a bunch, I changed my mind on basically everything I said before. I decided to re-create the maps because I was unsatisfied with how messy the in game map is. Because properly noting down sequence break requirements can get dense, I wanted more space, so I made the maps bigger. They will probably require zooming in, oh well. I'm keeping the traversal legend separate from the images (using same symbols), but I'm including collectibles in the map legend for convenience. I also added local coordinates for stuff. I think I'm satisfied with this format, so I'll probably start working on the other maps.

Thanks to this steam guide, I am now including enemies that drop Yellow Crystals.
