Hope this is helpful for anyone aiming to get the 'Legend of the Land' achievement, or who simply wants to befriend the prettiest and wackiest creatures in the game!

I compiled this from the RoP Fandom Wiki and other players' discussion posts and comments on Steam - I haven't verified all of the dates or spawn conditions myself, so let me know if anything needs correcting.

For a Rare variant of a species to spawn, you will need to:

• Have tamed at least 4 different variants of that species;
  
• Have tamed at least 8 animals of that species in total.

For a Legendary variant of a species to spawn, you will need to:

• Be in Year 2 of the game or later;
  
• Have tamed at least 6 different variants of that species;
  
• Have tamed at least 12 animals of that species in total.

What counts as having tamed an animal?

For the purpose of spawn conditions, you can count:

• Animals you have tamed and invited to the village.
  
• Animals you had tamed and invited to the village, but have since released.
  
• NOT animals that have been born via breeding.
