This games has some bad reviews and I think it's because some game mechanics are not well explained so I will try to give some pointers to help people enjoy it

How to plan a run
This game ranges from action adventure to roguelite and the tutorial is a bit missing leading about certain mechanics.

Map content
Each run consists of a time period and contains the following:
  • Your home
  • Mormo's tower
  • The village
  • 2 toys dungeons
  • 2 anchors dungeons
  • 2 NPC's dungeons (open with a key)
  • 2 biomes
  • Fountain, bench, etc, etc...

What is always lost between runs
Once you kill mormo or you die in the tower (only place where it's dangerous to die), the game will end, you will be able to keep some items but some other are always lost.
Everything that is lost:
  • Your money
  • The unspend celestial energy
  • 4 toys (laser ring, drone, golf club and vinyle frisbee)
  • The bench around the toys dungeons and the anchor dungeons
  • The special items used for purchase in the biome's shop
  • The items used to upgrade your sword

The rest can be saved if you have enough celestial energy.

Dying and keeping alive
The game hints you that if you die, everything is lost. That is true but only in Mormo's tower. Outside, in a dungeons or everywhere else the beetle will take you back to your home and you will only lose some money, celestial energy and some items.

If you do not want to die, there is two solution:
  • Giving money at the fountain (I would not recommand it, it's always more expensive and the other option is much more powerful)
  • Use a Parachute stiker (see the sticker section) which will make you eat some food if you do not have enough life after a hit. It can be disabled sometimes in a cave but overall it's THE sticker to always have on you

How to plan a run
The first thing to know is that a run will force you to stop exploring when you reach the same level as Mormo.
After that you will have 1 day to prepare and then you have to go fight Mormo.

That is true BUT you have many ways around.
  • First of, it does not apply if the current curse is a time curse (see curses).
  • Second, if you want, you can rewind time after you hit the targeted level at a fountain, for a cost (I would not recommand it in any other case than to have the achivement)
  • Third, time do not pass in dungeons!

The last one will tell you how to plan a run.
My advise is:
  • If you have the Pipe sticker and/or the air balloon sticker and/or the target, to equip them. Mostly the pipe since it will help you see on the map all the relevant thing in an overworld room
  • After that, take all the quest from town and run!
  • Run around all the world to activate the teleport bench that are disabled between runs
  • Enter all houses and speaks to all NPC to find the 2 keys for the optional dungeons
  • Enter all small caves to get all the items you can. If you have them, equip the Candle and/or the Ankh to help you see all the rooms and chests.
  • But try to not kill anyone otherwise you risk leveling up to much and been dragged to Mormo's (beware that opening a chest will give you XP)
  • Once you have all the map explored, do the dungeons (toys and optional first to have all the toys then the anchors)
  • By the end of the dungeons you should have attained the level of Mormo

The best weapon in my opinion is THE FOOT since it can stun almost anything. It can be purchased in the toy shop in town.
Stickers
I will try to list here not all stickers but the one I found useful even at a lower level that other.

Most useful

The parachute! eat food when you run out of HP, never take it of!
The umbrella will help you ignore all the projectiles, useful when you run to explore the map
The shrunken head, first gold level to be purchasable at the church for 1000G, full protection against ether

Best to explore the overall map

The target helps you find the Toy and Trial dungeons, so you can see where the disabled bench are located. Best part, you can equip it, locate your destination and switch it with something other you prefer
To be useful, the pipe needs to be equiped at all time during the exploration of the map (once you have seen all the rooms, you can remove it)
like the target, the air balloon is useful to find your way on the overall map, but you do not need to have it on you at all times

Best to explore a cave or a dungeon

The golden goblet is a cool trinket, useful to avoid missing a chest in a cave or a dungeon (there are many hidden rooms)
The candle shows you all the room, even the hidden one

Best for fighting
Be careful when equipping a sticker with an attribute (fire, poison or ether) you better be fully protected again this element otherwise it will bite you back.

The ankh is a great too for survavibility, it allows you to reduce you food consumption
The leech is a good second choice for fighting since it helps you eat less
The can opener is my first choice sticker on the sword, it allows you to hit anyone even with a shield

Best to level up
The best way to farm / levelup is to focus the crowned enemy and hit him with a low damage high rate tool (like the yo yo). Each hit has a probability to drop a celestial fragment and an item. And it is not limited to one per enemy, you can drop several with only one attack

Much more useful in a dungeon, on the overall map running after the crowned enemy is not that rewarding
More celestial fragments, more thing to keep between run, more possibility to have second chance or to buy special item
Badges are unlocked after the third run (I think) but leveling up will give you passive bonuses
Overworld map, what to look for
Enemy or NPC

Siren Orb
The most important enemy to kill is the one that drop the siren orb.

This item allows you to alleviate the curse of Mormo.
Here is the list of the different curses, their effects and how to orb will help.
During my runs, I got 3 differents curses:
  • The towers: a tower appears on the overall map and boosts all the adjacente enemies.
I didn't know the usefullness of the orb at the moment so I'm not quite sure of the effect but the orb should destroy it
  • The nemesis: the most annoying of all the curses, an unkillable enemy will follow you EVERYWHERE even in dungeons.
The orb will freeze it for half a day (enjoy the dungeons where time do not pass!)
Beware, if you sleep or use the watch to forward time, the effect will be voided
  • The 5 days curses: the best most easy curse
This one is my favorite because you can kill all the enemy you encounter without worry about ending your run. The bubble enemy is common enough that in a day in the game you will find another to reverse time.
I use it a lot to level up my sword (I think I managed to pass 9 or 10 level in a run)
The effet of the siren orb is to rewind time by a day

The magpie
He will sell you some rare items that you won't be able to find elsewhere

The radish
He will give you a bonus (chest, enemy that drops a chest, cave)

Baby penguins
Once you have activated the quest, they will pop from time to time and will flee when approched.
If you want the achivement for capturing them all, start early! They are legion!
Once you have capture some, return to the bug penguins to increase the number of bomb and mine you can carry. You have to catch 50...
Biomes
There are 4 differents biomes but only 2 are available at the same time during a run.
Some toys are only found in a unique biome or dropped during the night offerings.
I do not have the list, but if you comment on this guide I will update it.

Each has its unique currency and offers bounty in this currency for powerful enemy.

Desert

The junkyard

The zombie city

The jungle
Offering at the altar and sword leveling
Like the really good guide from @Adam says, the altar is the best way to gain an advantage in the game.

It was the only way for me to levelup my sword by one level. I didn't manage before using it to collect all the necessary items.

The items
You will need 4 items to level up your sword, they can be found in chests anywhere in the world, but the fastest way to have them is from the altar.

I tested all the items listed by Adam but I found that 3 worked best:
  • The fire and ether mine
  • The clockwork mouse

They always dropped 3 chests (the enemy are tougher but with the foot, it's worth it and quite easy).

The four necessary items are:
Tools list
The best toys are the foot when fighting a lot of enemy or a strong one and the yo-yo to farm items and celestial fragments.
The max level of a toy is 9

Special Toys
These toys cannot be bought and are found in the toys dungeons or the NPC dungeons.

Starter toys
These will be given at the beginning of the game

Others toys
I hope this list will help with the achievements to get all toys.
You can drop some during an altar offering, purchase in the 5 different shops or found some in chests.

Conclusion
Please do not hesitate to comment if you think some info are missing or if the organization can be made clearer
