Revert SSE to version 1.6.640 or 1.6.1130

Are you dumb enough to update your game even though you modded it for version 1.6.640, and now nothing works anymore?
Well, I made the same mistake. Here is a quick guide to revert that.

4. Move downloaded files into Skyrim install folder
Skyrim file depot is usually stored here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_489830

Skyrim install folder: (could vary depending on where you have installed Skyrim at)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition
(alternative: right-click on Skyrim in Library -> "Manage" -> "Browse local files")

Move the files from the depot folders to the Skyrim install folder and select "replace all".

Congratz, you are done!

I would highly recommend to "deactivate" Updates for Skyrim.

To do so you´ll have to...
  1. right-click Skyrim in your Library and select "Properties...".
  2. select the Updates-tab.
  3. click on the "Automatic Updates" dropdown-menu.
  4. and select "Only update this game when I launch it".
This prevents the game from updating as long as you don't start it through the Steam-Client.
This is generally not a problem due to the fact that you'll have to start the game through SKSE anyways when you've got mods installed.

Though I have heard of cases where the game updated anyways. So keep in mind that this is not a 100% guarantee that the game wont update. Nevertheless I would advise you to do it anyways.

There is a second method to prevent updates from happening.
This method fully prevents Skyrim from updating but starting Skyrim through the Steam-Client wont be possible anymore and has to be done through SKSE or a ModLoader. If you try it anyway it will show an error message.

To do so you´ll have to...
  1. go to your steamapps folder (if you have multiple Steam-Library installationfolders, you'll have to go to the one where Skyrim is also installed at)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps

  2. locate the following file in the steamapps folder (489830 is Skyrim's app-ID)
    appmanifest_489830.acf

  3. right-click the file and go to its properties.
    In the properties window you'll have to check the box at the bottom that is labeled as "Read-only" and hit apply.
To revert this Method you'll simply have to uncheck the "Read-only" box and starting the game through Steam works as usual again.

@epidat if you could move all files into the folder without having to replace any, I think that should be fine as well but dont know for sure.

@epidat when you move the files from your depot folder to the skyrim main install folder. It asks you for a few files if you want to replace or keep them. Select replace all.

how do i know if i downloaded all the depots? i copy and pasted the whole thing so i dont know how long i need to wait

@KloiKloi, with this option none of the games will update while you're playing Skyrim. Don't set this in global settings but only in Skyrim's properties. This will result all downloads to be paused when you launch Skyrim. In other words, Skyrim will want to start update when you launch it but won't be able to do so, because you don't allow downloads while playing. Optional, you can cancel download when it's paused.

This worked for me all the time before, so should work now. I turned off these options when I had to run some tests to help modding community and forgot to turn back on.

Still the very best solution is simply to keep a backup files for your 100% working game. Should be enough with files you provided. Yes I read that it doesn't fix the game for some people, but I think, they just can't follow simple steps because they're used that everything is automated and thinking is not required.

I hope I didn't write this too messy and people can understand what I meant.

@Squall are you sure about the "Never allow background downloads" solution? Doesn´t that only affect other game downloads/updates while playing Skyrim and not Skyrim Updates itself?

@Infamous Smg User, there are a lot of us, who encounters this.

@dxctorbugz, why would you want to downgrade if you're not using mods?

@Star_Helix, it's something on your end, this method works just fine. It is possible that you have a mod which did overwrite original files when you installed it and now you overwrote them with these files and that makes your game broken.

@Cinnamon Roll, are you trying to run the game using default launcher?

@lilpanda418, verify file integrity, restart computer after files are downloaded and try these steps again.

Regarding "Extra I" If the game is still updated then it's probably because Background Downloads are Allowed. Setting it to "Never allow background downloads" should resolve this.
