Here's a tad bit longer explanation:

Using the patch gives you access to roughly 5 "games" from the Fata Morgana universe:
  1. The House in Fata Morgana (Steam)
  2. The House in Fata Morgana: A Requiem for Innocence (Steam)
  3. Reincarnation (not on Steam)
  4. Seventh Lair (Steam)
  5. Mujou no Erasmus – The Erasmus Two-Faced Stories (not on Steam)

Note: I had some issues running the "Mujou no Erasmus" part.

About the Legality/Morality of This Patch
For some reason, the better versions are not on Steam. While using the patch, you will get access to assets from different versions, but you can't really pay for them here on Steam. You can buy The House in Fata Morgana: Dreams of the Revenants Edition on Switch or PlayStation and get access to the first three games. As far as I know, the "Mujou no Erasmus" is only part of the complete edition, the ファタモルガーナの館 Novectacle Collection (translated: House of Fata Morgana Novectacle Collection), which is available as a physical edition only.

What to Buy for Morality's Sake
  • For the Novectacle Collection (all five games with everything), try Amazon: Amazon Japan[www.amazon.co.jp]
  • For the first three games with extras (in 4K):

Suggested Play Order
I've only played the first three games, so I might need a little help here. But, this seems to be a solid play order using the options form the in-game menu:

  1. The House in Fata Morgana
  2. A Requiem for Innocence
  3. Short Stories
  4. Reincarnation

I haven't played these two
  1. Seventh Lair
  2. Mujou no Erasmus – The Erasmus Two-Faced Stories

If anyone wants to try playing this patch on Linux via Proton you can just follow the Steam Deck instructions! I'll put them here (slightly adapted from the FAQ of the patch) for ease of use:
1) download "FatamoruPC-VX.X.exe" from the website download section.
3) Add the executable to Steam as a non-Steam application, and then configure it for "Proton Experimental" compatibility mode.
4) Launch the executable file (.exe). please set the path to the folder of one of the three games to initiate the patch download.
5) Launch the game once the installation is complete.

Note: The game will have a launcher. After it's installed and you open the game proper it will say it has a new update. You can say "Ok" as it will install the contents of the patch.
After it installs you no longer need to open the patch on Steam. Just open the game you bought via Steam. Don't worry if it says it has new updates if you open it days after. It will not break the patch. Do the updates.

How do I uninstall this? After uninstalling the game from Steam, there are still a bunch of files left in the (steamapps\common\The House in Fata Morgana) folder. Do I just delete those?

Steam achievements work perfectly fine with the patch. Additionally, we're working on enabling Steam Cloud functionality in an upcoming update, so you'll have that feature available soon as well.

hi, thanks for shedding some light on how to get the full experience! one question tho, do you know if playing with the patch somehow affects the ability to earn achievements on steam for the game i own?

Thank you this was super helpful! For people in the future, here's a more detailed play order:

1. The House in Fata Morgana (main game)
2. A Requiem for Innocence (prequel)
3. Short stories from Requiem (Assento Dele, Tales Wasted Away in Obsecurity, Happily Ever After, and Fragment)
4. The Revenant's Dream (short story)
(OPTIONAL) The other 14 short stories
5. Reincarnation (sequel to main game)
(OPTIONAL)
6. Seventh Lair (Parallel universe to main game)
7. Mujou no Erasmus – The Erasmus Two-Faced Stories (Parallel universe to main game)

If you want to experience the full story the main game and prequel should suffice, Reincarnation is more like a character-driven fluffy fan service game where you see everyone get their happy ending. It's not essential but after experiencing the main story and it destroying your heart you'll most likely want to see though.
