The Lonepine mall

Welcome to the Lonepine mall! Now under new ownership this mall is a place to find everything you may need. From guns to
clothes you will surely find it here. Except water we're not allowed to sell that after the "incident". Maps are located around the mall if you need them.
Also sadly the elevator is out of order due to it being jammed so if your legs don't work maybe come back another day. Sorry for this inconvenience
we will make sure to never let someone bring jam onto the elevator again.



Lonepine mall is a CTF map that takes place in a mall. It contains an original layout which includes theaters, food courts, one way doors, lots of glass and shiny things and more stores than you can shake a stick at. All topped with a Smissmas theming!

Your Objective:

Capture the enemies intelligence and bring it back to your base
As well as protecting your own intelligence that the enemies are trying to steal.

I found the map was actually more closed in if anything. Especially compared to the other mall maps. I do feel part of this redux would be me going through and reartpassing areas to feel different from the other maps. I think a setting change for one, maybe something a bit like my home province Newfoundland. then I would also alter the style from the current concrete wall style of the other maps and try doing a different feeling to it. I really like malls from the 80s and while it doesn't fit as much with the time period of this game, I want to do something more extravagant and along the lines of movies like "Jingle all the way" and aim it on the Christmas rush and less on just generic stores like other maps focus on. I sort of did this already with the meet Old Nick section but I'd amp it up big time in a reartpass.

I would definitely want it to stand out more from the other 3 mall-themed maps, my main concern about this map is how open it is.

Hey, glad you like the map Joittrh! I planned on putting together an SFM version but was distracted with other maps and lack of motivation to work on this project. Doubt I'll really get that version of the map out with the shear amount of assets I'd need to deal with, so for the meantime I recommend just using bspsource to extract the assets and to then simply recompile the map unpacked (May need to enable HDR). Shouldn't be too hard to figure that out I don't think. If you need help I recommend checking out the Valve Developer Community wiki or asking around TF2Maps.net .

And as for the design of the mall, I'm not the proudest of this map as I do feel overall the artpass could've been better. Maybe in the near future I may do a Lonepine redux as a complete, from scratch overhaul. But for now my focus is on other maps for the upcoming holidays.

Glad that you liked the map though and am glad to see people still playing and enjoying this map!

Hello! I wanted to use this map in SFM too, but sadly it won't open there, too big or something I think? I tried recompiling it myself, but I've never touched Hammer before. XP Regardless, I took a walk around in TF2, and it looks really great! A rather believable mall, in the TF2 style! I only have two complaints.

First is there's only two stalls and they're both for food. Malls always have a jewelry stand, a sunglasses stand, a cheap toys stand, a watch stand, photo booths, and a random tower of candy/toy/gumball machines! Second, the "clothing stores" don't seem to have many clothes on sale. Unsure if having clothing cosmetics is possible, but if so, putting them in the windows would be a nice touch, as would adding some TF2 weapons to the display in the gun store. Also, no random women's intimate clothes shop? Or a vacuum seller? No Sears or JCPenny riffs?!

Joking aside, I can't wait to see the next version, and maybe a non-Smissmas version for other parts of the year!

Yeah I'm gonna release a new version of this map soon and once that releases I'll try getting an SFM version done. Just a heads up though I'm not very skilled with porting things to SFM so may take me a hot minute to get it done. Still glad you want to use my map though!
