This guide will give you a good insight into the characters you can unlock in Ziggurat.
What does it take to get them? What perks do they get? Any starters weapons? Do they have more health, or do they get less green mana?
What makes them better, faster? How do you use Rigel properly, and why might the apprentice still be useful after getting Kraz!

Format
Requirements: What do you need to get this guy playable?
Description:
The in-game description when selection your character.

Starting Stats:
Health:
Wand/Purple Mana:
Spell/Blue Mana:
Staff/Green Mana:
Alchemy/Orange Mana:
How high is your max X or Y with this character?

Starting Perks:
Basically, which cards you get at start, for free. If a card has a level, this will also be mentioned. 'Hidden' perks are also noted (like decreased attack speed with non-staff weapons).

Pros:
What makes this character better than others?

Cons:
What makes this character worse than others?

Playstyle:
What perks to pick, how to use your ammo, read it here!
Argo the Apprentice
Requirements: Unlocked by default.
Description:
Main character. Balanced stats, without particular strengths of weaknesses.

Starting Stats:
Health: 100
Wand/Purple Mana: 50
Spell/Blue Mana: 100
Staff/Green Mana: 100
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 100

Starting Perks:
- None

Pros:
- Like it says, no weaknesses. Great for getting use to the game and thinking about where your true potential lies.

Cons:
- Doesn't really do much special and thus is unlikely to surprise.

Playstyle:
Just use your other weapons where applicable. Argo's strongest suit is that he can get careless at times and use any weapon he needs.
Kraz the Novice
Requirements: Get 200 wand kills.
Description: Very powerful magic wand skills. Smaller mana pool for the other magic disciplines.

Starting Stats:
Health: 100
Wand/Purple Mana: 100
Spell/Blue Mana: 50
Staff/Green Mana: 50
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 50

Starting Perks:
- Wand Master lv 5, increased wand attack rate.
- Wand Link lv 5, increased wand mana regeneration.

Pros:
-The wand is accurate and fast. Due to high reserves, you're unlikely to run out of mana quickly.
- Excellent for sniping or single targets, or clusters of weaker enemies.

Cons:
- Terrible against groups of tougher enemies.
- Not great at crowd control.
- Other weapons have very limited ammo.

Playstyle:
Using Kraz is easy. Use the wand as MUCH AS YOU CAN, but switch to the others for a little extra burst damage. The best weapon you can get as Kraz is a splash weapon, as the wand isn't great at hurting several medium-durability enemies.
Otherwise, Kraz's reliable damage is offset by his wand's low damage. If you need a lot of damage NOW, your weapons will run out too fast. You can lose control quickly if you don't give your wand a breather.
Menzi the Shaman
Requirements: Kill 40 Shamans (hooded fellows that summon carrots).
Description: He relies on his battle cry to recover health and mana. Mana gems and potions aren't as effective

Starting Stats:
Health: 100
Wand/Purple Mana: 25
Spell/Blue Mana: 50
Staff/Green Mana: 50
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 50

Starting Perks:
- War Cry lv 5, recover a little health at the beginning of each battle.
- Vigilant lv5, recover a little mana at the beginning of each battle.
- Triangle Power, wand shoots 4 shots in triangle spray, alt fire is same, but slower.

Pros:
- Has guaranteed health and mana regeneration.
- Interesting wand spray.

Cons:
- Smaller mana pools.
- Health gems as 20% as effective (2 hp instead of 10 hp). (no decrease in mana gain?)

Playstyle:
"Focus on an avoidance based playstyle. You will not be able to refill your health mid-battle very well."
~ Erincia Wilhamet
I agree, this seems like a build that auto-fixes itself, but only with minor mistakes. There's no real *major* benefit to this character, since the mana gain isn't an amazing help and the health might not cut it either.
Simon the Sorcerer
Requirements: Beat the game (as of now, floor 5).
Description: Made a pact with the devil. A true master of the 3 main magic disciplines with very fragile health.

Starting Stats:
Health: 50
Wand/Purple Mana: 50
Spell/Blue Mana: 100
Staff/Green Mana: 100
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 100

Starting Perks:
- Alchemy Mastery lv 4, increases alchemy attack rate.
- Spell Mastery lv 4, increases spell attack rate.
- Staff Mastery lv 4, increases staff attack rate.
- Talented Alchemist lv 1, alchemy mana pool regenerates slowly.
- Talented Spellcaster lv 1, spell mana pool regenerates slowly.
- Talented Staff Wielder lv 1, staff mana pool regenerates slowly.
- Wand Tinkerer, Wand is less accurate, shoots 2 projectiles.

Pros:
- High attack rate and dps.
- Regenerates mana.
- Somewhat better wand.

Cons:
- Low initial health.
- Health gems are only 50% as effective (5 hp instead of 10 hp).

Playstyle:
"Focus on a glass cannon approach as well as avoidance. Health is harder to get back."
~ Erincia Wilhamet
Agreed. Simon's only good if you can get a good weapon early on. Considering his regen abilities, getting a staff would be best. Getting Druid upgrades might help with the less power health drops, but getting some thick skin (take less damage) wouldn't be terrible either.
With his new wand, he might be alright even if he dumps too much mana!
Algorab the Alchemist
Requirements: Deal 35.000/35,000/35k damage with Alchemy (orange mana) weapons.
Description: Slow and steady, the alchemist can cause havoc around him. However, his wand skills are lacking.

Starting Stats:
Health: 100
Wand/Purple Mana: 30
Spell/Blue Mana: 100
Staff/Green Mana: 100
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 100

Starting Perks:
- Alchemy Affinity lv 3, Increase alchemy damage, decrease to spell/staff damage?
- Alchemy Mastery lv 3, increases alchemy attack rate.
- Algorab's Wand: Shoot faster, more accurate?
- Starts with an alchemy weapon.

Pros:
- Strong alchemy play.

Cons:
- Smaller wand mana pool.
- Moves slower.

Playstyle:
"Focus on using alchemy based weapons."
~ Erincia Wilhamet
Considering that alchemy weapons are slow, you want to get at least SOME staff upgrades, in case you need some burst. Otherwise, I see no real downsides to this class, as you're unlikely to use the wand much anyway.
As for upgrades, anything goes. He's just Argo with perks, if the wand means little to you.
Rigel the Acrobat
Requirements: Deal 35,000/35.000/35k Staff Damage
Description: Excellent mobility and decent *staff* skills. The rest of his attacks have a slower rate of fire.

Starting Stats:
Health: 100
Wand/Purple Mana: 30
Spell/Blue Mana: 50
Staff/Green Mana: 100
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 50

Starting Perks:
- Staff Mastery lv 3, Increase your staff attack rate.
- Staff Proficiency lv 2, Reduces mana usage for staves.
- Haste lv 2, you move faster.
- Hidden perk: Staff Hands, Any non-staff attack fires slower, around 50% regular speed.
- Hidden perk: Be green or go home, Start with a staff (can be any unlocked staff).
- Rigel's Wand shoots faster, to mimic the power of Staves.

Pros:
- Staves are LETHAL. Their speed is huge and you start with one.
- Attack speed allows for easy destruction of lots of baby enemies.
- Huge DPS, amazing against bosses.

Cons:
- Extremely reliant on green mana drops.
- Green weapons fire quickly, you will run out quickly, but...
- Other weapons suck, so try to conserve your greens for a rainy day.

Playstyle:
Save your greens as much as you can. Sure, the staff will destroy anything with ease, but you'll only fire a few seconds before all that green mana is used up. If you use the staff, use it with care and try to land as many hits; any miss will cost you dearly.
Preferably, you can use other weapons instead, but they're much slower, so be wary. However, with his amazing DPS, when you do use staves, you'll win.
If you want to most out of him, get perks that give more Staff Mana (Staff Scavenger), more Mana per crystal drop (Warlock), more Drops (Scavanger) or, if you feel lucky, Amnesia to swap out pools (since you might not use the others anyway).
If you're a beast, getting Cleansing will make you near unstoppable, since mana consumption is easily your biggest worry.
Saiph the Librarian
Requirements: Deal 25.000/25,000/25k damage with spell (blue mana) weapons.
Description: Great spell knowledge. He doesn't learn from experience as fast as others.

Starting Stats:
Health: 60
Wand/Purple Mana: 50
Spell/Blue Mana: 150
Staff/Green Mana: 80
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 80

Starting Perks:
- Spell Mastery lv 5, increases spell attack rate.
- Spell Proficiency lv 2, Reduces manage usage for spells.
- Bookworm, show one more perk when leveling up.
- Hidden perk, stubborn, gain less experience.
- Bring a book, starts with a random spell.
- Saiph's Wand: Stronger, but projects are visibly slower.

Pros:
- Large spell mana pool.
- More efficient with spell mana pool.
- Faster attack rate for spells.
- Starts with a spell.
- More choice of perks starting out.

Cons:
- Lower staff and alchemy mana pools.
- Lower experience gain.

Playstyle:
"Focus on spell based attacks and using the initial Bookworm perk to your advantage."
~ Erincia Wilhamet
I think this build requires a lot of thinking. I've yet to see many spell weapons, so it's hard to say which is best. That Shotgun Spell is AMAZING with that speed increase...
That is, if you have the mana.
Corvus the Vampire
Requirements: Kill 5000/5.000/5,000/5k enemies.
Description: He'll recover health from the souls of his enemies, but his thirst for blood will never be truly satiated.

Starting Stats:
Health: 200
Wand/Purple Mana: 50
Spell/Blue Mana: 100
Staff/Green Mana: 100
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 100

Starting Perks:
-Bloodlust lv 5, knowledge gems regain health.

Pros:
- High health pool.
- Good health pick-up regen.
- Bloodlust health gain scales with experience drops.
- Guaranteed health drops (most enemies drop XP).

Cons:
- Healthy drains slowly over time.
- Health gems are 20% as effective (2 hp instead of 10 hp).

Playstyle:
"Focus on reaching battles quickly. The longer you stay out of combat, the more your health will drain and leave you at a disadvantage."
~ Erincia Wilhamet

To me, Corvus is a self-defeating tank. Get upgrades for more health and stronger XP gems and some thick skin and you'll be the toughest dude in town. Also, try to be fast and furious, you can tank some hits, but you're on a timer!
Osuna the Bard
Requirements: Kill 250 kobolds (crossbow guys?).
Description: Osuna makes up for her low health with a superb management of her mana reserves, allowing her to attack from long range without worrying about energy usage.

Starting Stats:
Health: 40
Wand/Purple Mana: 50
Spell/Blue Mana: 100
Staff/Green Mana: 100
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 100

Starting Perks:
- Spell, Staff AND Alchemy Proficiency lv 4, reduces mana usages for spells, staves and alchemic items.
- Amulet Get, starts with an Amulet.
- Persistence, drops stay longer before vanishing.
- Channeling lv 3, amulets charge faster.
- Osuna's Wand, 100% perfect accuracy, alt fire shoots 4 shots in a diamond / tilted square pattern.

Pros:
- Great with mana useage.
- Great with amulets.
- Very long range wand.

Cons:
- Lower health pool.

Playstyle:
"Use the increased drop rate to your advantage to keep digging for more health gems. Healer is a good perk to run with to increase the chance of health gem drops."
~ Erincia Wilhamet

My guess is just to go wild. All her perks aim to keep her going. Just never stop shooting and use those amulets!
Hadar the Templar
Requirements: Kill 25 demons (tall human dudes that shoot red shotgun spells).
Description:
The templar gets energy from the souls of dead enemies. No need for mana gems.

Starting Stats:
Health: starts with 100, starting MAX is 150
Wand/Purple Mana: 50
Spell/Blue Mana: 100
Staff/Green Mana: 100
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 100

Starting Perks:
- Mana Steal lv 4, recover mana from knowledge gems.
- Hidden perk, Crystal Allergy, no mana crystal drops from regular enemies.
- Brawler, Increase the number of enemies in all combats and get more drops as reward.
- Hadar's Wand, shoots 4 pellets in a cross pattern, alt fire shoots a hex-pattern of 6. Shoots slow.

Pros:
- Great mana regeneration due to Mana Steal.
- All in all, he's about heavy fights.

Cons:
- No mana gems dropped by enemies (except bosses).
- More enemies might be annoying.

Playstyle:
"Focus on always keeping up with knowledge gem drops to regenerates your mana."
~ Erincia Wilhamet

I think his point is to fight his battles wisely, using his wand to kill heavy things and one-shot the weaker. I dunno, his guy just seems like a harder throwback mode.
Jules the Harlequin
Requirements: Find (and open) 10 mystery boxes.
Description:
An experienced and very agile thief.

Starting Stats:
Health: 50
Wand/Purple Mana: 50
Spell/Blue Mana: 75
Staff/Green Mana: 75
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 75

Starting Perks:
- Trickster, mystery boxes will be safer and will drop more treasure.
- Curiosity, you will encounter treasure rooms more frequently.
- Scavenger lv 5, increase enemy drop rate.
- Haste lv 5, your feet feel lighter.
- Jules' Wand, or the Doom Shotgun, shoots projectiles in a fan/arc. Primary shoots 3, alt shoots 5.

Pros:
- Fast.
- Lots of drops, likely to get mana and score.
- More treasure rooms, meaning more easy experience.
- A very useful shotgun wand.

Cons:
- Low Health.
- Low mana reserves (compensated by higher drop rates).

Playstyle:
Jules benefits from lots of weenie enemies to get lots of drops. He's unlikely to not get a bunch of healing items and mana, but the question is if he'll live long enough to plunder them.
Get something to make him tougher (Thick Skin or Life Awareness) but don't bother with Druid too much. Avoid Curse or anything that lowers his max health. He's weak enough as he is! Telekinetic (increase pick-up range) is good, and anything to give him more mana is good. With how many mana drops he gets, go nuts with your weapons, as your HP is much too valuble to waste on tiny mistakes.
Essentially, he's Duke Nukem 3D or Doom Mode: Be fast, be aggressive, and loot all you can.
Cid the Seer
Requirements: Kill 250 carrots. Those walking angry carrots.
Description:
This one shows great potential. Low initial stats, but learns a lot faster.

Starting Stats:
Health: 50
Wand/Purple Mana: 50
Spell/Blue Mana: 50
Staff/Green Mana: 50
Alchemy/Orange Mana: 50

Starting Perks:
- Scholar lv 3, more experience from knowledge gems.
- Cid's Wand, shoots more projectiles, but is weaker and inaccurate.

Pros:
- More experience from knowledge gems.
- Gains more levels and thus more perks.
- Pretty good shotgun wand.

Cons:
- Low starting health and mana pools.

Playstyle:
"Focus on knowledge gems to gain more perks and level up."
~ Erincia Wilhamet

This is prime material for Bookworm and a bucket of levels. Cid starts out bad, but if you have plenty of unlocked perks, he might just kick some serious ass.
Get a staff that's accurate, since his wand sucks at sniping.
Carina the Apprentice
Requirements: ???
Description:
???

Wand/Purple Mana: 50
Spell/Blue Mana: 100
Staff/Green Mana: 100

Pros:
- Your own personal Zu Warudo/The World
- Huge control potential

Cons:
- If you ever stop getting knowledge gems... you lose your biggest perks!
- Also, not the greatest wand, considering you're likely to face easy to hit enemies

Playstyle:
- Use your high HP to rush gems and keep things stable.
- Find big weapons that have accuracy problems
- Target small guys first, trail the freezing from there
- Are more focused in fire than more free-style characters
Glyndor the Battlemage
Requirements: ???

The battlemage is used to pain and can channel it into energy but he cant keep it for long

pros
- Very beefy
- Mistakes are rewards you just haven't used yet

cons

- Kinda sucks if you're good at not getting hit

Playstyle:
- Get the biggest, baddest weapon you can find and spam it
- Use your high health reserves to get the manage you need
- Beef up on more heatlh.
- If you struggle to avoid getting hit, Glyndor's your man

Your Name - Wisdom/Content provided.
Here are the wonderful people that are NOT me that helped shape this character guide!

Erincia Wilhamet - Pretty much all missing characters (Menzi the Shaman, Simon the Sorcerer, Algorab the Alchemist, Saiph the Librarian, Corvus the Vampire, Osuna the Bard, Hadar the Templar and Cid the Seer), except their descriptions. Also some *more* minor grammar corrections.

- James Harrison - Minor corrections to stats/loadouts.

- saturnine - A terrible, but common typo where Green became Geen.

- Celtia - Pointing out Cid's exp boost is now a visible perk.

- _Randi_ - Character discriptions, Rigel's requirement.

- Shynda - Leta, Loki, Glyndor, Carina, Agnes! Wow, you helped a lot! Thanks a bundle!

- =(eGO)= Garrulous Garbanzo - Loki gives one perk at level up.

thanks for this! I've only ever tried one character so this is very useful

I just beat the game as Jules! I literally did not use him once until I read your guide. He's f*cking awesome, and, as you said, just like doom--great description.
I just danced through the fire and came out barely unscathed. The Examiner left me with all of three health, but I made it!
Nada Afterwards 2020 年 1 月 8 日 上午 10:26
I'm almost positive Leto also makes normal enemies move and attack slightly faster, nowhere near as crazy as green champions but still faster (maybe +25%?). This is very apparent in small rooms filled with basilisks as the entire place will be flooded with poison almost instantly.
It's also notorious when you kill an ice golem from medium distance and try to kill the two magma ones without moving. Normally most weapons allow to kill them before they reach you but with Leto you have to kite a little.
Not sure what perk would be responsible for this, it did seem rooms sometimes spawned more enemies than usual so either hero or brawler.
Gironashi 2019 年 1 月 30 日 下午 2:37
Don't forget that Loki only gets a "choice" of one perk per level.
Shynda 2018 年 11 月 2 日 上午 7:11
Carina the apprentice, Agnes the witch, glyndor the battlemage, loki the vagabond and leto the cleric.
i think you need to kill some monsters for the unlocks.
Witch is witches, vagabond are imps, battlemage are tough guys with the blood neeedles.
this is just a GUESS tho :)

I have just finished playthrough with Kraz and I wish to say wands are OP. No, really OP. I got the 3x XP 2x dmg received perk, Bookworm, and managed to get double damage double mana spent, and after that - triple perk to boost wand by consming one of the weapons. Only one perk was shown, but all 3 worked really. 2 wand shots for stormbeast. A burst for Examinator.
