Though yours is better for higher level permits and abilities that use "around" instead of "adjacent to," so yours is the better plot.
@Terra Reveene Don't they each have to be adjacent to another plant to mature in winter?

Nets you 18 plants for an edge build, it does require you to shovel up 2 of your starting spots so it is a little bit more costly

Where X is a used plot. This guarantees every plant has two unused edges.
With the Edge build the most efficient way I've found to plot them so far is only 4 plants centered in the first row, skip the second row, fill out the third row, skip the fourth row, fill out the fifth row, and skip the sixth row. This gets you 16 plants which IIRC works for the second tier of the small farm permit too. I'm no geometry whiz so this might not be right but it seems right so far,
