The Jade-Blooded Vampires: Islanders of the Moon

Beskrivning

New Faction: Islanders of the Moon

Difficulty Suggestion: Hard/Hard

In 1690, Cathay would launch a doomed expedition westward into the Southlands, seeking to spread the Celestial Empire's power and glory, only to be scattered by an eldritch storm at sea. A handful of these lost ships from the Cathayan armada found themselves landing on the Dragon Isles. Although they did not provoke the ire of the feral lizardmen native to the islands, they instead found something far, far worse - a malignant disease that seemed to sap one's ability to remain conscious, putrefying the brain as the victim wasted away. Immediately, the Cathayans abandoned the islands and desperately set sail for Cathay despite the poor condition of their battered ships. Eventually, their vessels would beach upon the shores of the High Elven Eastern Colonies.

There, the colonists provided the weary Cathayans much needed aid in a surprising act of Asur generosity and compassion. Although they still kept their guard around their mysterious and unwell guests, the colonists were keen to figure what sort of disease had struck the Cathayans. Soon, a handful of triages and treatment camps evolved into an imposing sanatorium in a matter of months; a donation from a travelling prince named Ydriath of Cothique, who styled himself as a diplomat and philanthroper of sorts. The building would officially be named the Danoi Sariour Sanatorium.

The sanatorium would house around four hundred patients, both Cathayan and Asur, who had fallen victim to this strange plague - which by then had been dubbed the Plague of Sleep or the Endridanoi by the Asur.

Initially hopeful of this bastion of healing towering before them, the colonists and patients alike, cooperated to combat this plague and prevent its spread beyond the islands. Little did they know of the madness that the disease would soon wrack upon them and the horrors that would be committed in the name of both medicine and desperation behind the sanatorium's pristine walls.

In the Fall of 1692, just little over a year after the sanatorium was built, the colonists had burned and demolished the structure; hurriedly purging any records related to the accursed hospital.

Faction Features

The Islanders of the Moon has access to the Danoi Sariour Sanatorium, where in you can either invoke strange paranormal occurences or summon forth the hospital's deceased staff and patients.

Much like the Curse of Nongchang, the Islanders of the Moon also has access to Rites.

In battle, the faction has access to the Rite of Impermanence, which has three stages, Sleeping, Dreaming and Awakening. These army abilities can either heal or buff your units or cause immense damage to BOTH you and your enemies.

Legendary Lord: Xu Yaoji

Xu Yaoji was Master Alchemist of the Verdant Serpent Order and was enlisted to embark on the conquest of the Southlands under the sponsorship and command of Yin-Yin, the Sea Dragon. Aboard the Sparrow of Qin, she and her crew met a series of unfortunate events, where they would be infected a mysterious malady from the Dragon Isles as they tried to forage food in the islands; forcing them to flee into the sea once more. Along with other survivors of the Cathayan fleet, they would finally reach the Eastern Colonies where they would become patients under the care of the High Elves.

Xu Yaoji however, despite the disease deteriorating her mind, worked painstakingly for days in search of a cure; a task she also made in an effort to remain conscious in order to prevent the deathly sleep overtaking her. Alas, Xu Yaoji's frail mental and physical body would succumb. In blind desperation, she sought the Moon Empress' attention; after all, she was a native from the Village of the Moon in Cathay, and there, a local belief existed where villagers on the Lunar Festival would conduct a ceremony called the Rite of Impermanence.

The Rite was believed to sever the pure soul from the impure body through the guidance of Yueyin, the White Moon. Believing this to be a suitable escape from their terrible fate, the alchemist had prepared the ritual immediately with the rest of her fellow patients. However, the ritual failed catastrophically as the deranged alchemist had instead drawn upon the ruinous energies of Morrslieb and resulted in the gruesome deaths of everyone involved.

Later, Xu Yaoji and her followers would be risen as wraiths, cursed to haunt the Eastern Colonies and further spread the plague that tormented them in life as well as in death.

Unit Roster

The Islanders of the Moon share a similar roster to the Curse of Nongchang, although with some regional differences:

  • This faction lacks Cultist infantry like Chanters.
  • Units such as Mogwai and Yaoguai have different forms as their mainland Cathay counterparts, as the monsters have adapted their image to horrors of the islands.
  • This faction has access to Plague Wraiths; deadly spirits that spread disease on touch.
  • Access to exclusive and powerful units themed around the hospital staff and patients of the haunted Sanatorium

High Elves

Besides the Jade-Blooded Vampires, the High Elves also gain access to a new lord, the Magister Astrologer.
His enchanted blade of the stars and command of both arcane and cosmic magic will help turn the tide against all manners of transient and paranormal beings.

Tor Elasor also gains access to exclusive units, Colonial Militia and Tower Guards of Tor Elasor.

Wierdly it says I don't have Spirit Traces when upgrading my horde past lvl 2 even though I have over 700 right now. It was working before, I have plenty of Growth and just shows Spirit Traces in red.

Sadly this mod appears to conflict with OVN Albion.
All of the recruitable units are Albion units when both mods are enabled.

He doesn't. He's just a generic lord.

Author, the new HE lord has no attribute to him? Seems he doesn't buff his armies well apart from new units. This is intended?

Rustic Clover, the whole race is really fun over all. Idr if its this one or the other one but when you get the chanters the ghosts go brrrr.

Awesome, I'll be trying them out properly again very soon.

Yeah the faction plays with a constant tug of war between life and death. If you spend too long doing nothing, your units literally fall asleep to death so you have to keep them moving to stay awake. They also take a lot of damage initially but once you rack up enough deaths you can bring them back to life and "wake up" all your units with your devastating army abilities. As long as you don't lose a disproportionate amount of units on the get-go you can always play around this cycle of death and rebirth and you basically never lose equally matched fights.

Ohh okay, I didn't realize the synergy involved. Thank you for taking the time to give advice!

Really wonderful faction mods you've made, I love all the flavour in them while still feeling like they could actually be in the world of Warhammer.

Ravenous ghosts and starved marquis have a negative trait where they take damage when they're not engaged in combat. It's also exacerbated by the sleeping disease that almost every unit has in this faction that lowers their speed and take damage when idle. You have to be constantly moving when playing as this faction, so during that first battle you have to rush the enemy formation as fast as possible. While you do take damage, that's where your army abilities come in. The first one is a map wide healing spell that also stalls the plague of sleep for a time.
That said, don't worry about losing ghosts. They're cheap fodder that can be replenished quickly from your summon ghosts recruitment pool.
