Introduction:
In Diehard Dungeon, you're gonna die a lot. You WILL die. There's no avoiding it. The first time you play, you'll probably die on the first or second room. That's okay. Unless you want to rank up.
Tips to Ranking Up:
Ranking up in Diehard Dungeon is quite difficult if you're just starting out. It took me 4 hours to even rank up to the Fighter rank (2nd rank). For everyone one of you having trouble ranking up, here's some tips on Ranking up in Diehard Dungeon:

  • Skipping over the chests and blue lights will get you more points to your rank. (Thanks dbomb123!)

  • If you're able to, clear out the room of enemies. Some of them may not let you pass into the next room without killing all of them. You'll be rewarded with points.

  • Dying will take away a good bit of your points. You can't avoid death. Try to stay alive as long as you can and eliminate all enemies in the room. It will help avoid ranking down.

  • A way of staying alive longer and avoiding taking health out is using your cannon to eliminate enemies from a distance instead of going real up close and slashing until it's dead. You're more likely to take damage that way.

  • At some points, you may need to open a chest to help you through the dungeon. That's okay. Don't always skip over everything. Collect as much gold as you can while collecting as many points as possible.

  • Like me, you might find yourself using the crosshair that you used for your cannon to hit in that direction you're looking in. It doesn't work like that. Turn the crosshair off in the options and it disables the crosshair when you don't have your cannon ready to fire.

  • In the Dungeon, there's enemies with pots on their heads with a skull on the pot, try to use the cannon on them, slashing at them drains your health by 1 or even 2.

  • If you do open chests or break containers and find an upgrade, leaving it on the ground and not taking it will give points as you leave the current room you're in.

  • Playing on Champions Mode will increase the amount of points you get by a lot.
Thanks for reading!
The only reason I wrote this guide was to help out other people who struggled as much as I did when I was starting out. I give credit to Captain_Trent for helping me out with some of the tips, like skipping chests in exchange for getting more points. Thanks for reading!

If you have any tips of your own, make sure to let me know in the comments and I'll be sure to put them in the tips section if they help!

Why would you want to have rank, because it just makes the game harder :steamsad:

(actual question)

I'm currently slotted #4 on the leaderboards. The best way to rank up is apparently just not to die. Survive as long as you can each time, and you will rank up faster. I don't know if leaving stuff behind has any effect on your ranking, but the more stuff you take, the better your chances for survival. Also, quickfire the hand cannon by pressing the right and left mouse buttons at once, or use a macro for firing. If you hold it out long enough to see smoke, you aren't doing it right. And don't use the sword unless you are cornered or the enemy is weak/immobile.

It would also completely invalidate the achievement of ranking on the leaderboard. Anyone can get a high rank if they can just quit before they die, since death is the only thing that seems to lower your rank in this game.

That would be an awesome exploit. xD

Ah. There goes my exploit idea. XD
And I guess it makes sense why I lost my rank when my game crashed yesterday, since I had just earned Champion during that run.

Ahh, I see, yeah. I don't believe you lose XP for quitting a game, because I haven't you. I do think that you won't earn the XP from your current run if you do quit it though.

I'm actually thinking that it might be based on your rank, ie. the better your rank, the more XP you lose on death. It makes sense from a mathematical point of view, as it would be possible to go far over the game's capacity to keep track of numbers, as often seen in leaderboards on Flash games. It also forces you to keep improving, since dying before the first boss just won't cut it at some point.
Also, does quitting the game count as a death on stats/cause you to lose XP?

Congrats on the ranking! But to answer your question, I don't know how much you are penalized for death, but it is a fair chunk of your rank taken out, or if there is a way to quantify the score with discrete numbers.
