I recommend you to use the new version 4 which has been updated.
Since ver4 has a reasonable CPU load, ver3.x is considered to be fine if you are worried about it.
It seems that ver3.x is not recognized. Information sought.

Countermeasures

1. download ver4.x from the official site and unzip it.
Rename the file if you want to manage it separately for each game.

[Add... ]button to select and add the controller you wish to configure. button to select the controller you want to use and add it.
Do this for all the controllers you want to use.

3. perform key binding (mapping).
Select (click) the controller you wish to bind from the list of added controllers at the top, and set it at the bottom.
Do this for each controller.
Note: The controller column is selected in blue, not with or without a check box.
If the output as a controller occurs during the binding and it is disturbing, remove the check box to be described in 4. Note that immediately after the change, mapping will not be possible for a short while (a few seconds or so).

Set the controller's anti-dead zone

All games, not just steam games, have a dead zone by default, which means that fine input is not accepted. The effect is especially noticeable with joysticks, as the amount of movement is large.
Change the Anti-Dead Zone and Dead Zone values in the Left(Right) Thumb tab at the bottom.

The output of the stick should be checked as described below.
The check on the steam side is only a guide, so adjust it while checking in the game.
Since the dead zone on the game side was confirmed to be larger than expected, it may be better to increase the Anti dead zone by about 12,000 (35% or more).

By checking the Enable checkbox in the upper left corner, the virtual controller is activated and the controller is output as per the key bindings.
At this point, the game recognizes it, so minimize it or put it down and play.
