To fuel the train you need to collect fuel items to put in the fire pit of the train

Get dynamite from the quarry or from random chests (with random chance to get the dynamite), then blow up the train cars, and possibly some friends.

Find the the conductor's bones and his key then take it back to the train and insert it into the key hole.
