"The M390 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) emerged from the renowned M392 Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR) employed by the UNSC. Recognizing the necessity for a weapon that could be issued to specialized infantry riflemen as well as automatic riflemen, a conversion kit was developed for the M392 DMR. This ingenious modification allowed the weapon to harness its full auto capabilities for engagements in the mid to close range.

To effectively manage recoil and accommodate the heightened firing rate, the M390 IAR deviated from a bullpup configuration by placing the box magazine in the center of the weapon. This deliberate design decision distributed weight evenly, resulting in enhanced recoil mitigation, superior control, and increased accuracy during sustained automatic fire."
