Intro

Here's what I understand of schmovement so far:
Sliding
If you press crouch while walking in any direction or right before you land (from any jump or fall), you'll slide, giving you some speed. It's not faster than sprinting (that I can tell), but again, you can do this in any direction (including backwards), which means any of the derived techniques can be done in any direction as well. Sliding is also just useful for squeezing under projectiles situationally (especially those horizontal bar lasers).

Also I want to emphasize that "right before you land" property, it's very important to understand that if you want to slide after a long fall. It feels a lot like wavelanding (from SSBM).
Slide-jumping
If you jump during a slide, you can retain the speed and travel further. You can do this in any direction, including backwards. It's also often easy to get a head-bonk right after a slide-jump if you slide jump at an enemy.
Chain Slide-jumping
When landing from a slide-jump, you can slide again to retain your speed, and then jump again during the slide, and then slide again, and then jump again, etc. You have some air control (which I don't fully understand) so you can keep this chain going for a very long time while navigating around obstacles.
Rocket Jumping

Get any simple explosive weapon (anything that behaves like a rocket launcher) and shoot it at your feet while jumping, and you'll be boosted mostly straight upwards. I don't think crouching in midair does anything for you, unlike in TF2.
Slide Rocket Jumping
Do a rocket jump, but slide into it. This will greatly boost your slide-jump's reach and speed. You can also angle the rocket up more if you want more a more vertical arc instead of horizontal distance. You can also whip around and shoot the rocket behind you more to get a really low launch arc, or just slide backwards to begin with (so you're aiming backwards already) to get that easy low angle high speed launch.
Chain Slide Rocket Jumping
Logically enough, you can chain slide rocket-jumps into each other until your weapon runs out of ammo / overheats, which feels quite extreme and has very quickly made rocket weapons my favorite type.
Rocket Gliding
Another way to extend a rocket slide-jump is just to shoot the ground beneath you with another rocket before you even land, which will redirect your flight arc back upwards while retaining your speed. I noticed this while using an Ice Cannon with the Hitscan modifier, and presumably it's harder to do without Hitscan rockets.
Weapon Shoutouts
Ice Cannon and Graviton Launcher feel nice for rocket jumping since they're energy weapons so you can go for longer without reloading, especially if you're using them just for rocket jumping and using your other weapon (or melee/abilities) for damage. Ice Cannon in particular has a very large explosion radius making it easier to glide with.

Flak Cannon (essentially a big heavy auto shotgun) is a little notable having the potential altfire "Flak Grenade" which is a grenade that detonates on impact and therefore can be used like a rocket for rocket jumping, which works well to close the distance on enemies so you can use the shotgun-like primary fire.
Outro
All in all, there's very little reason to ever actually Sprint, as far as I can tell, and it's very fun to even just slidejump sideways/backwards while shooting.

There's also a Demoman Sticky Bomb like weapon (I think it's named "Mine Layer") and I haven't messed with the movement implications of this at all yet so I dunno if you can stack mines to super-launch yourself like in TF2 or not.

Also the official RoboQuest twitter themselves tweeted this demonstration of using a bunny-hop to extend high speed, but I haven't been able to replicate it (at least trying to use just a jump to extend speed after a rocket jump or rocket glide). May be missing something. Comment if you know what I'm missing!

Edit: I've been able to replicate what's shown in their tweet more or less; it feels like there's just a specific timing window when landing after using one of those jump pads specifically, where you can extend the momentum for a jump or two, but not indefinitely (not full momentum-maintaining bunny hopping).

pro tip - you can enable auto sprint in the options and unbind the shift key. There is no reason to ever move at default speed

the twitter post can be replicated the same way slide jumping is done, the timing is just slightly tighter

Hoho. Gotta work your way up I'd say, like, start off with just walking and then pressing crouch to slide. Enjoy the feeling of sliding under stuff. Note how you can walk in any direction and therefore slide in any direction. Slide backwards for the fun of it.

Then try jumping during a slide for an extended launch. Enjoy the slide-jump for a bit. Slide-jump sideways a few times. Slide-jump backwards at least once just to say you did.

...then try crouching (sliding) while landing after a slide jump. Process that one for a while lol.

I'll try to ascend to the next level of unconsciousness and give your funky movement guide some thought. Usually I just always sprint, stop, aim, shoot, run some more, stop, aim, shoot. I grew up playing "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego" until about x-mas '86 or '87 (ColecoVision: Rise of the Donkey Kongs) until Nintendo. So, yeah, you do not want me on your Fortnite Team.

I think it does give you more horizontal speed cuz it gives you a lower launch angle. I doubt there's a speed difference between "whipping your mouse around to shoot behind you after sliding forward/sideways" and "sliding backwards to make it easy to shoot behind you" but it's definitely easier to do the second one (aside from aiming where you're going) and feels super smooth.

Sliding backwards into rocket jumping seems to give more speed but maybe its just wishful thinking
