Part 1: What is a d10 die?

This image is of several D10's. A D10 (or d10) is short for "a ten-sided dice". This is the type of dice that the World of Darkness StoryTeller system uses. No other dice.

There are debates on whether the 1 or the 0 stands for the 10. I find this argument hilariously awful, because you only have a one's digit represented on the dice, hence a zero would perfectly represent a 10, but there are apostates who either lack the brain cells to jump to this basic conclusion, or seek to poison everyone's minds by firmly ruling that "1" is somehow actually 10, and 0 is somehow 1, despite that there's only room on the dice for a single digit.

If you meet any of these interesting troglodytes, do the world a favor and slip some cold iron onto their person and monitor their behavior for any reactions to the cold iron in the strange case that they may actually be a fey wearing a skin-suit.

If you are one of those people who use 1 for 10 and 0 for one, first of all: How was your vacation on the moon? Was it good? How was the trip back after Apollo landed? I'm curious.

I do not condone the action of stalking people, but I do indeed condone all responsibilities of every unwilling citizen of the New World Order.

ANYWAY. Where was I?

Ah, yes. Because the above image of the d10 only uses the ones' digit to represent the dice roll, use 0 to represent 10, as you need a 0 to bump the 1 to the 10th's place, and use a 1 to represent 1.

Why is this important?
Here we go!
Part 2: The Character Sheet
Go onto your search engine and look up "World of Darkness Character Sheet". You're probably going to notice something immediately.

Depending on what game your playing, your character sheets are going to have different details juggled around:

For playing Werewolf, you're going to have Primal Urge, Rage, Gnosis, and so-on.
For Vampire, Blood points.
Fey have to manage Banality and glamour.
Mages get to have fun with Quintessence, Paradox, and
Imbued (Hunter: The Reckoning) have Conviction.
Hunters Hunted have their own morality.

If you're playing Chronicles of Darkness, you might even have different names for Attributes & Skills. If you're DMing, I do NOT advise learning both systems. Their lexicons overlap WAY too much, and it will stunt you in the long run. Just pick one and cannibalize the other. Write your rules down in a notebook.
It'll work.
Trust me.

Now, MOST OF THE TIME, the attributes and skills will (MOSTLY) remain the same alongside health and willpower.

You'll notice several empty circles in rows of 5. Those represent the dice you DON'T have.

Each circle that you scribble in with your pencil (FROM LEFT-TO-RIGHT) represents a D10 that you get to roll.

Almost all rolls use your "dots" from an attribute + a skill.
Example:

My character is a doomsday prepper, and he needs to make an attack roll against a target using his firearm.
He has the following relevant stats
- > Dexterity: * * 0 0 0 ( or, also 2/5)
- > Firearms: * * * 0 0 (or, also 3/5)

He has 2 "dots" in dexterity and 3 "dots" in firearms.

Add the dots and that means Prepper Joe gets 5 d10's to roll for his ranged attack, because
2 + 3 = 5

Chronicles of Darkness goes even farther and adds some sort of specialization column that functions like an additional pool of d10's for context-specific dice rolls (like proficiency, but for a dice pool).

So, IN THEORY, Chronicles of Darkness characters (and oWoD if the StoryTeller/GM is willing to cannibalize some of Chronicles of Darkness's rules), can, IN THEORY, have a maximum of 15 dice for hyper-specific rolls when they come up.

Do you see how this works?
Part 3: Everything Else
Don't take my word for gospel. I'm just here to introduce the literal bare bone marrow to any readers that happen to bumble onto this guide.

For further context, I recommend this nice video made by the same guys behind Hunter: The Parenting (who've, as the name suggests, used the oWoD books and cannibalized what they liked from Chronicles's Hunter: the Vigil)
Aand that's about it. That's all I really got.

As a player, don't annoy your GM/Storyteller. As a GM, don't annoy your players. You're BOTH there to play a game and have some spooky fun under a moonlit October sky.

I'm missing literally everything else, like how the health and damage works (Even today, I STILL don't know how firearm damage works: Is it 4 units of lethal damage per success and the player rolls to soak or am I doing it wrong????), but overall, the goal of this guide was to encouragingly "nudge" more people to try out this game system (and also maybe flush-out some reality deviants. Who knows?)

Oh yeah, I completely forgot to mention: Combat is hyper-lethal. Have backup characters. You've been warned.

My guide is NOT a replacement for the actual game rules. Read through those with your GM, use Layman's Terms when explaining them, and for the love of G-d, make sure EVERYONE at the table is having fun.

That's about it. I don't know what more I could possibly add to this.

Random Ravings you may not get if you haven't played WoD:
Oh yeah: You'll know if the person you're arguing against is a Garou, if after 30 minutes or less of calling him names and claiming you won the internet argument on whatever, you have your face smashed into a reflective surface when you go to the bathroom.

Garou may be Neo-/Luddites, labeled by modern urban society as "backwards thinkers" and "obstructive", but a good chunk of them know their way around the Umbra, and they can be... Creative with their approaches. (Not 5E. The other ones.)

Sleep tight and get off the internet before you get possessed by a Bane or something!

Also, don't eat from the new fast food chain that opened up! THEY'RE COOKING DEMONS INTO THE BURGERS! AND ENDERON OIL IS PUTTING CHEMICALS IN THE WATER THAT TURN THE FROGS GAY!

Also, the current recession and economic instability is happening because the IRS audited the Syndicate, and the roaming IRS agent that did it awoke when he realized the numbers didn't add up and is now a money marauder!

(To those who don't know what I'm raving about, don't worry. That's perfectly normal. It'll make sense later! To those who do know, I'll see you on the other side. Also, DON'T RETURN TO THE MINNEAPOLIS MN CHANTRY! IT'S A TRAP SET BY THE VAMPIRE TERRORISTS AFTER THE BIKER VAMPIRE BUSTED THEIR TRAFFICKING RING! DON'T WORRY ABOUT ME. I'M IN GOOD HANDS (Well, "paws", but they ain't Red Talons so I'm safe for now, but anyway). DON'T RETURN TO THE TWIN CITIES CHANTRY! DO NOT RETURN TO THE TWIN CITIES CHANTRY!)

End Note:
Basically, have fun. Go crazy. GG and goodnight!
