How to configure the key controls - Notepad steps updated

You must be wondering why this game in particular will not let you configure any control key to your play style.
Best Way was not aware on how difficult was to adapt to their layout so in this guide I'll teach you on how simple this application is and doing these steps will allow you to configure the game key controls the way you wanted.

After 20 years being left out the company remained alive and have finally delivered a proper branch new update 'R.1.28.4' that will optmize the game for modern system in the last 9 years. Operating Systems, vídeo card and specially big and widescreen monitors, TVs will be able to play this game on 1080p ( 1440p not verified )

Be warned to create a Backup/Copy of the file to not have conflicts later.
These steps are :
  1. Go to your :\Steam\steamapps\common\Soldiers Heroes of World War 2\profiles pick your created profile. If you haven't done that and was using by default profile named Player you can still proceed;
  2. New path can be found for Windows users at: AppData\Local\Soldiers Heroes of World War 2\profiles
  3. Inside the profile folder you will search for a file that is apllied to Keys;
  4. Next thing is to open your notepad and drag Keys file into it;
  5. Inside, you will see all the configuration you would not be able to edit inside the game. So with this notepad open, you will start configuring the way you want. Just make sure you are using Capslock or holding Shift when changing these parameters;

    Example:

    After

If 'Mouse_LEFT/RIGHT' command can be configured then maybe mouse with 5-8 buttons can as well. You will have to find out these button names, for example the mouse wheel is pointed as 'Mouse_MIDDLE' but really that is my guess.

You can however try using my guide. Is to go to the game and configure 'mouse4' and 'mouse5' buttons. Minimize the game executable and go to AppData\Local\Soldiers Heroes of World War 2\profiles\player
Drag Keys file onto notepad program and see how they were call. Copy and paste later and follow all my steps.

I'm writing to offer a correction to your guide. The new patch for Soldiers Heroes of World War II was developed by Best Way, the game's original creator.

Furthermore, Best Way is providing this and future updates free of charge, developed entirely on their own initiative as a token of appreciation for the community.

Drag Keys file onto Windows 11.2410.21.0
© 2024 Microsoft. notepad or any other you may have. Save the changes and don't forget to tick the box to make the file 'Read-only' just in case.

Player's preference are no longer being saved in the game directory but on your main user document folder.

Found it here: AppData\Local\Soldiers Heroes of World War 2\profiles . And Keys file will be shown or generated by new which was in my situation since this game have been uninstalled since 2023.

This no longer works tried, but it just doesnt work... Changed both player and my nickname key files still same shit

Make a discussion thread there and hope for others to participate to aid you better because in here, you are only alerting me for an old problem that I never have ever...really never encountered in the game so open a thread in the forum and get help. I'll be looking into some old threads but it might not help or might do but again. Here you are willing to be helped by one person when on forum, others more can participate.:steamthumbsup:
