This guide will walk you through the process of making a classic American culinary creation: a chili cheese dog.

- Hot Dogs (I recommend Nathan's Famous)
- Hot Dog Buns (I recommend King’s Hawaiian if you like sweet and savory)
- Chili (For canned, I recommend Hormel's Beanless Chili)
- Toppings (i.e. cheese, onion, jalapeno, etc.)

EDIT 16/6/25: Feel free to substitute any of these items with your preferred ones. These are just my personal recommendations on how I like them.
And I don’t like beans.

If you would like to make your own chili (yum!), here is a recipe that never lets me down:

- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce (I recommend Contadina)
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

EDIT 16/6/25: As I said in the last section, substitute items with similar ones to your liking. Try not to alter the recipe too much as it may impact your results.
I still don’t like beans.

FOR HOME MADE CHILI:
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until simmering
- Add the beef, onion powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, and chili powder and cook until the beef is browned, mashing and breaking up any large pieces for about 8 minutes
- Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, and mustard and reduce the heat to low
- Simmer for 10 to 12 minutes to let the flavors meld
FOR CHILI DOGS:
- Prepare a hot dog in your method of choice. You can microwave, boil, grill, pan-fry, however you like it!
- Plate a hot dog bun
- Place hot dog into bun
- Carefully pour the warmed chili over the hot dog (this can get messy!)
- Finish off with your choice of toppings
- Chow down!

You now have a delicious chili cheese dog to enjoy. Pair with your favorite beverage. My personal favorite is Vanilla Coca-Cola.
