You start with a gift! Usually something valuable such as pearls (AKA PORLS!!!) or a cheaper slightly less effective option is the overseer eyes (the yellow and sometimes blue things that point you to stuff.) and if you want to drop something hold down and press grab to drop. You dont wanna accidently stab your new potential best friend! And if you do give them a gift then be sure to approach slowly and dont rush them. Give them space and they will thank you for it. If they raise their spears at you stand back and give them a gift to show you dont mean harm. this is called a scavenger toll and scavengers will expect you to pay to pass through. If you jump on by and don't pay they will not hesitate to stab you

They respect you now but they are still a little bit jumpy around you. This is because of your [Reputation with them/i] Reputation which you can gain by: giving them gifts. Saving them from enemies. Paying the tolls. But you can also lose it by: passing through tolls without paying stealing from them. Hitting them with rocks. But the one that makes you lose the most is by just killing them. Can have them treat you as part of their tribe and can also protect you from enemies when is danger. They also can go into your shelters and you can help them out in this way too! But I dont know if this increases reputation but I think it might. And if your reputation is really high they let can let you pass through tolls for free!

If you make your reputation low enough then then things will not be pleasant. If it gets extremely low they will attack on sight and even send out hit squads to your general location. The lower your reputation is the more they will charge for tolls trading and it will be harder to gain back their trust.

Artificer and scavengers HATE EACHOTHERS GUTS and you cant make friends with scavengers and your reputation is always extremely low.

The Spearmaster can spawn spears infinitely soooooooo you can just infinitely give them spears! Remember however that there is a cap to how much reputation you can gain in a day so you might want to do that over multiple days. This is less of a glitch and more of an oversight in my opinion.
