Several of the more out of the way Journal Entries are research notes, which contain a series of numbers that when combined looks like:

Now, I have no way of proving what it's for, but my best guess is that it's the originally intended way of finding the solution to the Shard Puzzle. If you take each number as the position of one of the pillars for the shard puzzle and try activating them from 1 to 8, you get the exact same order as the inscription. That is, going by the numbers on the pillars, 25346187. I think they weren't originally going to number the pillars for the shard puzzle, but decided that using the research notes to solve it was too obtuse and turned it into an expanded version of the Mausoleum puzzle.
