The galaxy is a big place. With around 200 Billion stars, 50 billion planets, and only an infinitesimal fraction of them charted, there's more than enough space for everyone. Every resource out there can be harvested by the educated layman with a drill, and the Atlas series of craft are built to fuel any industry from upstart outposts to titanic ecumenopoleis. Every new system has its dangers. Mother nature will fight us for her endless bounty, from the depths of nitrogen oceans, to diamond rains, to organic life with a taste for human blood. We are fragile, have no doubt... but we will persevere. For as long as the educated layman has his drill, the human species will prosper.
