The Easy Way
In Steam, enter your games Properties by right clicking on the title in the menu on the left or by left clicking on the gear at the right on the game's page.

Select the General tab (if it's not already selected).

In the Launch Options field type...

-offline



You should now be able to play the single player campaign without it crashing
The Hard Way
Find your executable files. They're going to be in "...\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist\src\SYSTEM".

After you've done that, select and right click either "Blacklist_DX11_game.exe", "Blacklist_game.exe" or both, then click "Create shortcut"



Select a shortcut and right click it, then select "Properties"



It should open up to the "Shortcut" tab Where you will find the "Target" field. Add the following parameters to the end of the existing text ...

-offline -offline_mode

so it reads something like...

"...\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist\src\SYSTEM\Blacklist_DX11_game.exe" -offline -offline_mode

or

"...\Steam\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist\src\SYSTEM\Blacklist_game.exe" -offline -offline_mode

Make sure you include a space between the close quote and the new parameters



Rename it in the general tab and hit "OK"
Notes On the Hard Way
  • Starting the game directly from the executable (not using any shortcut) still crashed for me.
  • Using the method in "The Hard Way" will bypass steam entirely. You don't have to sign in and can leave steam off.
  • With Steam off, I was able to get a wired DS3 to work fine without any 3rd party software. According to the Sony page I visited, a wired DS4 should also work fine in Windows 10.
  • If you add the new shortcut as a "Non-Steam Game" it will still crash.
  • Uplay Connect will still boot and (for me at least) it seems that the "Remember Me" toggle finally remembers.

At one point I was asked about multi-player/co-op. Here's what I understand as of now*...

PS3: Yes. But due to the server shutdown, leveling is capped. The link below will take you to a discord server where you can get a 100% completed save file. (2023-07-17 - Don't know if the level cap issue changes if PC works)

Despite the many fun games Ubisoft has made over the course of their existence, between the always online DRM, being locked out of [half] your own game and their generally bad and anti-customer business decisions/practices - do yourself a favor and avoid buying renting (?) anything from Ubisoft.

Dream5 if you want to play splitscreen use the PS3 version in rpcs3 with 2 controllers connected to your PC

@Zenmaster067 Doing "The Easy Way" I was able to get the achievements to pop. Since the "The Hard Way" bypasses Steam, my guess is it won't work. I'll have to check later to see if that's the case for sure or if they don't pop afterward. Probably not but I had a bunch pop up for me just from starting the game after the achievement update from my pre-existing save (some didn't).

@BoO What do you mean "like before"?? If the PC version ever had split screen co-op I've never seen it. Though I do vaguely remember reading somewhere that it does exist (just commented out or possibly obstructed)... don't quote me on that though. Just something else I casually came across years ago and don't really remember at this point. But it looks like Nucleus Co-Op might work for CT and Conviction if you're up for trying that out for those.

unfortunately still happening in 2025, I heard this makes it so that you can't earn achievements. Is this true?

@WarPorcus Sounds like, whatever it was, you got it taken care of. Unfortunately, Ubisoft is very good at giving us ways to not play so there's a good chance you might've been experiencing a different problem. It's been a while but I seem to recall that in a number of cases (apparently yours as well) switching to the DX9 version avoids issues that the DX11 version runs into... like DX11 is just more unstable to begin with or something. Like I said, it's been a while and I don't really remember anymore. Either way, glad you got it taken care of.

If you, like me, have done all this, and it still crashes randomly (especially during combat or hacking or whatever random stuff happens in the game), my solution for this is to switch the game to DX9.

Yes, its dumb. But for me, it works. I was so thankful that I played for 3 hours straight with no issues. Ghost runs, full assault runs, everything in between.

Man, I've done all this and it still crashes.

In the Steam launch option, is it just "-offline" or "-offline -offline_mode"?

I've used those arguments in both Steam and the Ubisoft Launcher just to be safe.

I don't even know what to do with this game anymore.

@SоSаL? Yes, it is stupid. The only way I'm aware of that could bypass Ubisoft Connect involves an ocean voyage.

(For the whingeing corpos - no, I'm not condoning piracy.)

Is there a way to launch the game through steam bypassing the ubisoft launcher? Entering a password every time you log in is nonsense
