MBTA #12 Main Line 4- and 6-car Sets

描述
This is the MBTA-specific version and is not line-color compatible.Generic line-color version is here: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2873342769

The MBTA "#12 Main Line" series was built between 1979 and 1981 by Hawker-Siddeley Canada in Thunder Bay, ON. 120 cars were built, numbered 01200 to 01319. Their designation places them as the twelfth series of cars built for the Boston Elevated Railway/MTA/MBTA for service on its Main Line El, later the Orange Line, opened from 1901. The cars were the last true "el" cars Boston would see, as the remaining portions of the Main Line El were torn down in 1987. The cars were based on the earlier PATH PA-3 (1972) and the #4 East Boston Tunnel cars (1978) for the MBTA Blue Line (although these were capable of third rail and 600VDC overhead operation). The Boston cars showed significant differences to the PA-3 in terms of window configuration and side trim, and the 01200s were the largest of the group at 65 feet. Both the PA-3 and 0600-series cars have been retired.

They are two-car "married pair" units, with the cars sharing critical equipment such as the air compressor and batteries between the pair, rather than each car carrying a full set of equipment, and each car has a cab at only one end. This means the cars can only run in sets of even number, but saves on weight and expense. Early in their career, the 01200s were run as 4-car sets, with 6-car sets coming as platforms were extended and the line was re-routed off the El to new infrastructure in the Southwest Corridor. The 01200s were wired for pantograph operation as-built, since the MBTA was contemplating extending the Orange Line north towards Reading, MA "under wire" when the cars were built. This was ultimately not to be, and many cars had their pantograph wiring removed during subsequent rebuilds, although some cars still retain the roof wiring.

The introduction of the CRRC-built "#14 Orange" cars on the Orange Line has been problematic to say the least; while the MBTA has accelerated retirement of the #12 cars following the resumption of service on the Orange Line in September 2022, a number of Hawkers continue in service after 41+ years.

As a Boston resident, I think you did a perfect recreation of these. Keep up the good work!

@eloisiana Sorry, I really have no interest in buses. I only made these as a pet project.
