this is probably what your screen looks like when you ALT + F4, CTRL + W or press the X button on the top right (if this is not how your screen looks, don't worry, this guide might still work):



don't worry about how the menu is visible in the back; the background (excluding the "EXIT LEGACY COLLECTION" and "EXIT/CANCEL" text) was blank and black for me, but after i fixed this problem for myself, i took this image as a reference for how your screen would generally look with this issue.

(note that you will lose all of your saves in the process; i don't know a way to recover them since this involves clearing %appdata%)

1: (didn't use this but heard it was a solution) turn off Steam Cloud (Steam Cloud causes the game saves to upload to a cloud, including possibly corrupt ones) prior to Step 2 (Steam in the top left corner >> Settings >> Cloud >> uncheck "Enable Steam Cloud synchronization for applications which support it".

2: if TLS:LC hasn't already been uninstalled, i suggest uninstalling it to be safe.

3: go into your File Explorer, put %appdata% in the search bar, go into Roaming (if it doesn't put you there initially).

4: delete the folder called "TheLastStandLegacyCollection".

5: re-install TLS:LC, then get a little bit of progress (as much as you think you need; for instance, at least 1 day of survival in TLS1 or TLS2).

6: re-enable Steam Cloud and overwrite the prior stored cloud save when prompted (no idea if or when this'll show up, again didn't have to do this).

7: if Steam Cloud was already turned off, don't worry about steps 1 and 6; simply having erased the appdata and game files should suffice.

if none of this works, it might have something to do with how the game's executable has been configured in Properties (might want to undo those to see if it works; on the other hand, if you never did, you may want to try experimenting with those).
