Special conditions of detention: Samples of SCP-008 represent an extremely high biological hazard of level 5 and require strict compliance with all appropriate measures. Thermal and radiation treatment measures should be applied in cases of: military or political events that may lead to a violation of the integrity of the complex; power outage; lack of communication with operational or external channels during an eight-hour period.

For operatives leaving the facility, the quarantine period is four months. If a violation has occurred, thermal and radiation treatment measures must be applied. The policy of all G2 Zones should be to refuse evacuation.

Description: SCP-008 is a complex prion, samples of which are contained in all known G2 Zones. SCP-008 research is strictly classified and primarily aimed at preventing research that could lead to the synthesis of SCP-008 in the future. The features of this prion include:

The effectiveness of infection is 100%.
Lethality — 100%.
It is transmitted through open mucous membranes or any body fluid.
It is not transmitted by airborne droplets and through water.
Signs of infection with SCP-008 appear no more than three hours later. These include:

Symptoms similar to the flu, accompanied by high fever, significant deterioration of mental functions in later stages.
The onset of coma is approximately 20 hours after the first signs of the disease and 12 hours after the onset of dementia. The coma stage should be considered the beginning of clinical death.
A period of sporadic cellular necrosis begins, resembling gangrene. The surviving tissues retain their former function and become much more stable.
Red blood cells noticeably increase oxygen capacity, which leads to a slowdown in blood flow and an increase in endurance and strength.
The nervous and musculoskeletal systems are not affected by general multiple organ failure for several hours.
In some cases, the metabolism drops to an extremely low level, which allows the infected to survive for more than 10 years without nutrition.
As a result of increased blood viscosity, the gunshot, stab and incised wounds received by the subject are accompanied by only minor blood loss.
Conditional and instinctive behavior, as well as motor-motor functions are affected, mental abilities are significantly reduced and become unstable. Animals experience extensive brain necrosis and become inactive.
The subject can adapt to damage to the nervous system, but cannot do anything more complicated than basic actions, such as maintaining an upright body position, maintaining balance on two legs, walking, biting, grabbing and crawling. Subjects move briskly in the direction of smells, sounds and visual images that are associated with living people. Subjects try to eat live people through physical contact.
To completely neutralize an infected subject, significant traumatic brain injury is required.
There is strong evidence that SCP-008 did not form naturally on Earth, because its varieties, comparable in complexity, would inevitably introduce an imbalance into the ecosystem. In 1959, after the discovery of the G2 Zones, negotiations were held with the USSR on the further search for these zones and the destruction of SCP-008. The status of SCP-008 in Russia after the end of cooperation is unknown.

Appendix 008-1: It has been established that SCP-500 is able to completely cure SCP-008 even in the last stages of the disease.
