The pre-war version of Canal Block!

//Requirements//
Nothing should be required as it should all be packed into the bsp. The map file itself should be "rp_city17canalblock_prewar", minus the quotation marks.

Do note that while no game should be required, the size and scope of the map might cause some issues for users on lower end PCs despite rigorous optimization. As well, be aware that despite attempts to prevent conflicts, other workshop items might still conflict with assets used in the map.

//Gameplay//
  • d1_canals_01 to d1_canals_05 merged together into one map.
  • Cleaned up all the debris from the various canals
  • Somewhat proper water flow has returned to the canals
  • Smaller settlements haven't been built yet, so most spaces are cleared
  • No toxic slime or it's damage to the environment
  • Clearer, summer time vibe
  • Nodegraph and navmesh

While in the Gmod Sandbox mode, any dead bodies, blood stains, activated map scripts or other changes can be cleaned/reset using this: Pressing Q -> Utilities -> Admin -> Cleanup -> Cleanup Everything

//Development//
With this pre-war map I wanted to try and do things a little differently. As with Canal Block, I have been experimenting with a wider variety of Valve assets. I think this has been quite beneficial as it allowed me to come upon the skybox texture used in this map. For a while, I've been meaning to at least experiment with a new texture or method of making a sky and I thought this might be a good opportunity.

I will say that this map presented the most interesting challenge of the pre-war maps yet; figuring out how the highway ramp was supposed to work near where you would go to the train station. In the original, it's collapsed, but where did it go? I had to be mindful as it was over the train tracks too, but I think I found something that might work.

Otherwise, the map was a lot like the others. Fixing the water level, removing debris, making cleaner textures, making sure railings weren't falling over.

Thanks for checking out the map! More is coming! What specifically? I am looking at finally making the central area of City 17 from the uprising chapters. But that won't be all: more coast maps, a full Nova Prospekt map, maps from the Episodes, and a much larger project!
