S16M1 Kavus

The S16M1 Kavus is a two-seater twin engine light fighter designed to replace the aging F6 Bellerophon II. The S16 Kavus can be armed with up to six air-to-air missile and equipped with flare and chaff dispensers. Standard load out however are four missiles and two drop tanks. It can be refueled via a flying boom, although provisions for probe and drogue refueling exists where it will be fitted on at a later date if it becomes necessary. The aircraft is equipped with a AESA radar, IRST, and RWR. Jamming pod and targeting pods can also be optionally fitted.

With a top speed of mach 1.86 and a turning radius of 150m, it is a highly capable fighter with high speed and maneuverability. The missiles are capable of hitting maneuverable targets while being nominally resistant to decoys. In order to extend range and speed of the missile, warhead size had to be sacrificed. The air force considered it worthwhile as a missile that can't reach its target is worse than one that have a smaller bursting charge.

Originally envisioned as a joint service fighter for the Air Force and Navy, the latter has since shifted towards favoring the F6A7 more. The S16 Kavus isn't compatible with existing aircraft carriers. As no new carriers have been built for a long time, the S16 was seen increasingly unlikely to be used by the navy. The probe and drogue receiving system was also never added due to cost saving measures, although the Air Force still says that the design allows for its implementation at any point.
