So what is a bannyhop?

bhop or bannyhop is a mechanism in the Source engine that allows you to gain speed by jumping and streaming. Earlier versions of the engine had no speed limit, so you could theoretically gain infinite speed by moving around the map. After the developers realized this problem, they set a speed limit to prevent abuse of this technique.

How Bannyhop can help you

You might think, what's the point of jumping? It all comes down to one thing: speed. The faster you move, the harder it is to hit you. Imagine being a terrorist on the Dust 2 map and being able to get from the T spawn to the box faster than the SWAT team can even turn a corner. This will give you a significant advantage, especially if you've already had time to aim with your AWP and watch the corner at length, waiting for an unsuspecting SWAT team. Easy frag, easy 5v4, easy plant, easy round.

Requirements for bhop

If you want to do jumping correctly, you will need the right equipment. Although there is no "wrong" equipment, a good mouse pad, a good mouse with a good wheel, and a tactile keyboard will do wonders. You can bhop with the space bar, but you shouldn't do that. You will have a much better chance of jumping well using the mouse wheel.

Mouse Wheel Bind

So how do you use the mouse wheel to jump in CS:GO, CSS and Garry's Mod? You simply press the "~" key to open the developer's console.
Then type or copy and paste the following commands:

bind mwheelup +jump (for wheel up)

bind mwheeldown +jump (for wheel down)

These commands will make the scroll wheel up and down help you jump without the space bar. If you want to use the scroll wheel only "down" or only "up" to jump, just select the desired direction of the wheel, copy and paste the appropriate command.

Now you can start training!

Many people will tell you to start a local server for practice. I, however, recommend that you join one of the community's many bhop servers. Why? If you use a local server for training, there will be no lag. You can be incredibly cool at bhop on the local servers, but when it comes time to play, you won't have any luck. That's because in normal game play you'll encounter lag, otherwise known as ping.
You need to practice in a real game environment so that you don't lose timings on a local server without lag/ping.

Strife jumps

Strife jumps are used to create momentum and are the most important part of bhop. To strafe, simply run forward with the "W" key. Jump, and when you jump, release the "W" key and hold down the "A" key. While doing this, smoothly move the mouse to the left. The same is true for the rightward-strike, when you jump and release the "W" button, hold down "D" and move the mouse to the right in a smooth motion. The smoothness of your mouse turn is very important, because if your movement is too fast, too slow or too sharp, it can lead to a loss of speed.

How to bhop

Now you just have to put it all together! After the first jump, you no longer have to hold down the "W" button. In fact, after you have started jumping, the only keys you will press are A and D.
So here's how to bhop:
1. Jump by holding down the W key
2. Let go of the W and perform a leftward-streak as described above
3. Jump as you land
4. Execute a rightward sweep as described above
5. Repeat the action again
Bhopes are basically all about getting your jump timings right. After a couple of days of practice, you will have a concept and you should be able to start bouncing in your matches. You can practice jump timings without shooting if it makes it easier to learn. Just hold the "W", jump, release the "W" and keep jumping. Try to time your jumps to maintain your speed. You will know if you are doing the jumping correctly when you just keep jumping forward.

Commands for Bannyhop

Important: this method does not work on official Valve servers, only on their servers.
First, open the console and type sv_cheats 1.

Then enter these commands:

sv_enablebunnyhopping 1 - enable bunnyhopping;

sv_autobunnyhopping 1 - turn on bunnyhopping with the space bar pressed;

sv_maxspeed 10000 - bhop speed setting;

sv_staminajumpcost 0 - disables stamina consumption for jumps;

sv_staminalandcost 0 - disables stamina consumption (when player slows down on landing);

sv_staminamax 0 - cancels the energy limit for you;

sv_airaccelerate 100 - command for surfing;

sv_staminarecoveryrate 0 - no need to restore the character after jumping;

sv_airaccelerate 2000 - acceleration in the air;

sv_maxvelocity 3500 - maximum "speed" of the player, in flight or jump

sv_accelerate_use_weapon_speed 0 - bannihop characteristics do not depend on the weapon, which is in hand

A small data window

To get a better understanding of how this works, go to an empty map and enter the command cl_showpos 1 into the console. In the upper left corner will start to display various useful information, including movement speed.
