Why wave 11 you ask? Because that's what I did to farm credits and so that's what I put in the guide. I never said it was the only way :)
I don't remember getting that many credits so early on in the game in one level, if you do then maybe that's a good time to farm. As for the egg, I don't remember it staying in front of my ship, more like continuously looping around and it didn't seem to help much imo.
I've found that missiles will target asteroids if they're closer than enemy ships, but probably still makes sense not to have them if farming as you describe.
Sorry for the late reply and thanks for the feedback and comment. You are correct that my tips are not absolutely necessary to reach stage 24, I just documented the easiest way I found to do it while leaving not much to chance in the earlier stages. If you don't have full fire power after stage 11 (or 13 as otherwise suggested) then some players may find it harder to get to the end and the reason why I suggest farming credits at stage 11 is because there is an NPC pilot which helps a lot.
Thanks for your comment, however, I do suggest upgrading to Plasma and Portable Portal Relauncher at stage 11.
Once you've upgraded to The Plasma Cannons along with the Portable Portal relauncher you will have no trouble getting to the latter stages of the game, most ships will be destroyed in a few seconds. To get some perspective, upgrade your ship to one level beneath these and clear the asteroids at the start of stage 11 then see the difference once fully upgraded.
