Worth noting that if the grind is getting tedious, there's an accessibility option that guarantees a hybrid bee will always be a mutated bee so long as all prerequisites are met.
But yeah, I personally go with 4-7-7-1 for my preferred stats. Mutation doesn't really come up much after getting all bee types, especially after gaining access to Royal Jelly, but that extra lifespan with max productivity ensures that each queen is able to fill an entire Advanced Apiary's worth of frames. It's quite nice~
Definitely got punished for trying to min-max my bees stats...
However, are you sure that the stability does not influence mutation?
I have been trying to get tier 4 bees since two days ago. I did ~10 rounds of around 10 swarmers (so ~100 swarmers total) for the ancient bee and got nothing (worker + twilight, both 7-6-6-7).
I was starting to get frustrated and tried to do the Industrial instead. Did two rounds of 10 swarmers (regal + worker, both 1-7-7-7, 3 honeycore machine), got nothing again.
I then tried to do the Chaotic bee, farmed a few twilight to reach 2 stability + honeydrop and surprise, I got it first try with a single swarmer.
It then hit me that since I farmed my bees stats to reach 6/7 everywhere, I was not getting new mutations. I breeded a few 1-7-7-1 worker + regal, did a new round of 10 swarmers and immediately got 16 Industrial Bees.
I don't know if this is a total coincidence, but I am now a believer, haha.
As for the Crystal Bee, thanks for the heads up, I bred mine in the frozen wastes with honeycore machines around and didn't bother to check the wiki to confirm that one, my bad. Guides been updated to have the correct info.
I'm actually really enjoying the game, so once I get a full grasp on everything, I might actually start looking into creating something to focus a bit more on breeding traits, getting really in-depth and nerdy with Punnett squares and everything~
True, with a slight caveat. From my observations, while it doesn't matter for the stats as much, the behavior, climate, weather preferences, and aggression of the queen are all based on the top "queen" slot, so the order should still be taken into account.
For instance, when breeding a pure-bred Cathemeral bee with a pure-bred Diurnal Aggressive bee, putting the Cathemeral bee on top will ensure the queen's hive works 24/7, while putting the Aggressive bee on top will require a Smoker or Empress hive be set up during the day.
