HMCS Airdrie was the lead ship of her class of light cruiser. She was laid down as the result of a request from the Canadian parliament in 1915 for the aquisition of 10 new cruisers. The previous design, HMCS Leduc, was deemed unsuitable for repeats given her cost and the lackluster armament gotten for said cost. The Airdrie class was, as such, designed to be the cheapest viable light cruiser that could be obtained at this time, originally armed with 5 6 inch guns, although all unarmored, and capable of 27 knots.

10 ships of the class were laid down: HMCS Airdrie, HMCS Spruce Grove, HMCS Lloydminster, HMCS Brooks, HMCS Chestermere, HMCS Beaumont, HMCS Camrose, HMCS Wetaskiwin, HMCS Cold Lake, and HMCS Surrey

Due to delays due to lack of funding and a war between Canada and Russia in 1916 only 6 of the class would be completed, with Beaumont, Wetaskiwin, Cold Lake, and Surrey scrapped on the splipways. The remaining 6 would be completed between 1917 and 1918.

2 ships of the class, Spruce Grove and Camrose, would be sunk in 1930.

Once more modern light cruisers began entering service, and as Canada gained more colonies, the Airdrie class began to be stationed overseas to help manage said colonies. The configuration Airdrie is depicted in here, her 1937 rebuild, is what she was in during her colonial duties during the late 40s German-Canadian war and the mid-50s US-Canadian war. 2 of her 6 inch guns have been removed and another one relocated, with a set of above-water torpedo tubes and 4 4" dual-purpose guns added on.

She is not built to be functional. Don't take her into combat and expect her to work. She does not have weapon controllers, shells, or adequate detection equipment as of now.
