I use:
L2 & R2: Face Buttons + Heart
L1: Up, Down, Slide L
R1: Left, Right, Slide R
Sliders on L1 & R1 allow quick access to them when your hands are busy, which is very useful in scenarios where spam ends with a slider. The L2 & R2 binds help greatly on console style charts. While holding a macro button, it counts as one of two buttons that need to be pressed for double notes and there's no score penalty for doing this (sustains do force you to stop holding it, or you'll miss the end). Both binds also have the benefit of hold switching with sliders and hearts, which unlike in Project DIVA, can be set as hold notes.
If you do choose to mix stick inputs into your macros, you need to turn off Direct Joystick Access under the Input settings, or it will force misses on heart sustains.
