Introduction & How xp mechanics work
Jumping right into it - I use mastery and xp interchangeably, though I try to mainly use xp. Mastery is just how it's referred to in-game. All information is sourced either directly from the code or through testing. If you happen to notice any discrepancies though, please let me know. All this information has been stripped out of the primary document I created, which is the google sheets linked here -> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WEthLnq09Ago5IW5hmJlEMnTlagD-xzB3FcA8TTVPm8/edit?usp=sharing

Important Notes
Understanding how xp is gained:
•xp is gained in increments of 1. To gain a level where a decimal is shown, reach the next highest integer.
•Generally xp is gained "on hit" (when you hit an enemy with an ability) or "on use" (when you use an ability).

On Hit:
•All Primary (1st rows), Secondary (2nd rows), & Power abilities (4th rows) gain xp per hit. With the exceptions of Alex's Counter & Triss' Shield Defend, which are detailed below.
  • Alex's Counter gains xp per successful counter. The subsequent counter attack grants xp per enemy hit, which is given to the currently held primary. With the exception of Tunic of Nessus, which gives the counter attack xp to itself.
  • Triss' Shield Defend gains xp per received attack while defending, whether or not the shield took damage. (This means Shield Defending leeches in Mission 2-1 is an excellent way of leveling up Shield Defends.)

On Use:
•All Evade abilities (3rd rows) gain xp per use. With the exception of Triss' Rush, which gains xp per hit.
•Side note: The AoE from Alex's Jump doesn't generate xp.

Misc. xp Notes:
•"Tier 1" Leeches (basic / purple) don't grant xp on hit. However, Shield Defend & Counter can still gain xp off Leeches because they are per "successful action". This is important to beware of, as many people in the past thought you could farm xp off these Leeches
•xp is not granted if the enemy takes no damage. (non-matching color barrier, invincible phases, etc.)
•Chests grant xp on hit. All other environmentals such as barrels, grass, snow, etc. don't grant xp on hit.

New Game+ Notes:
  • xp gain is increased by 1 per new game+ loop.
  • Mastery bonuses are boosted by 0.75% per equipment level.
