Fighting Mimics is quite luck-based early on, I started to kill them after finishing layer 4, however it isn't very recommended unless you love the challenge. As you say, waiting with them till you finish layer 5 is a more safe and better idea.
That is correct, it isn't untill end-game that you can even make Yggdrasil though, if I'm not misremembering it. Going for damage first is always highly recommended.
Yes, as far as I'm aware you cannot avoid that damage in any way possible.
-The overall best weapon is the Decrepit Remnanants/Yggdrasil, otherwise the combat drag too long specially on bosses so more chances for mistakes. Ennemies hurt and can one shot you in the endgame so the penalty isn't that bad and the damage boost allow you to be damage caped.
-Dark Hare for mimics but it's rng on the darker ones in the Ex dungeon.
You can loot a secret ring in 6-1 for their "Crustal Movement" but it doesnt seem to work, i can defend the skill (it's green) but I still take the 50% dmg based on max health.
I want to add that Mimics doesnt respawn and you'll need them killed if you don't want to grind merits too much. At the beginning i'll suggest to skip Mimics enterely and write down their locations and do them later when you have better damage, you won't need the Dark Hare if you have good attack stats and the Decrepit Remnanants. Personally i started to kill them at the end of the 5th layer.
Been too long for me to remember exactly what he says, though it's very obvious which he's interested in and not.
They're just for collection, not needed for anything secret later on.
Thank you for pointing that out, I've corrected it now.
You're welcome, I'm glad to hear that my guide was useful for you and that you enjoyed the game!
