How to dock in a Orbital Station
由 Nayomi 制作
So you know how to get yourself in orbit, good, good. What was that? You want to expand the station? Of course, this guide will try to tell you how to dock in a station orbiting Earth, and what the rocket should have.

Also, please note that this is how I do it; there may be an easier way.

Let's get right into it.

First steps and Requirements
So first you NEED a station to dock to, well It's rather simple. You need to get a rocket into orbit which has At least one docking port.

If you don't know how to get a
rocket into orbit follow my previous guide which I focused how to get in orbit, and what your rocket requires

You can use this simple rocket if you don't want to build one yourself.

https://sharing.spaceflightsimulator.app/rocket/dXLo9qGWEeyfY3dcu4p9zg

(just load it into the game)

I will use this rocket for this guide. The red marked part is the station that will end up in space.

If you use your own rocket, please make sure it contains at least one docking port, fuel tanks, and RCS. Solar panels can be included as well, but that's only for decoration, as currently they have no use.

List of Rocket requirements

  • Rocket that is able to carry a station to the Orbit (Enough Thrust fuel etc.)
  • The Station part has at least 1 Docking port, any size. (For the second part to attach)
  • The Station part has at least 4 RCS (for the station to be able to rotate in case of need)
  • The Station part is the Same on each side. (So the rocket isn't heavier on one side and doesn't rotate over in flight)
  • The Station part has a control probe so you can align yourself via RCS

List of Player knowledge requirement

  • Knowledge and experience of getting into orbit.
  • Knowledge how to build rockets that are possible to reach orbit.
  • Knowledge of the basics of the game.
Setting up the base of the station
So first, you need to set up a base of the Station, as mentioned before, it should contain at least one docking ports, fuel tanks, and some RCS.

You can use the rocket in the previous section.

Get the rocket into an orbit, make sure the orbit isn't too high or too low, Make sure It's between
50KM - 450KM for optimal and easy access.

Launch the base and get it into an orbit of your choice, the more the orbit is circle shaped and not oval shaped, the easier it will be for you to dock into it.

Once you get your rocket into the orbit, detach all engine parts and leave only the station.

(Optional) You can Clear Debris and remove all excess left from the rocket, so it won't cause any trouble later on.

This is how it should look like.
(Notice the RCS and Docking ports on each side)

Docking with the Orbital Station
Here is where the magic happens. For a reference, you can watch my YouTube video how I docked with the Tutorial station, then follow the steps below.

Youtube ref. Video. <-- Clickable........

Steps…

Set your Station as ''Navigate To'' Before launch!

(Click on the station and the menu will pop up)

This will show you the orbital lines of the station you chose.

After doing so, you can launch now, proceed as you would normally proceed to obtain an orbit BUT Make sure you match the highest point in your orbit as the station you are trying to dock to. (Aka make them almost perfectly the same)

After doing so, time skip to the highest point and match up your orbit from the other side as well.
However, make sure your orbit is either higher or lower than the orbit of the station. (So eventually the two stations will catch up)

It should look like this.

TimeSkip and patience now

Now, timeskip untill you see the -xx.xxM/S or +xx.xxM/S appear at the mark of your rocket

When this appears

If you see -xx.xxM/S (X as a random number) This means you have to burn in the opposite direction your orbit is. So if it has an MINUS you thrust to the opposite direction your orbit goes. If it shows PLUS thrust to the same direction your orbit goes until it reaches at least - or + 10.xxM/S then use your RCS to make it to 0.00M/S

After doing so, zoom out and check where a ''Rendezvous'' Marker will appear on your orbit, this is the place where your Rocket and the Station will meet up,
I highly recommend quick saving at this point to prevent any lost progress in case of a failure.
(There is a chance your rocket might crash with the station)

Now gently time skip until your rocket and the station get close to each other. (Stop time skipping BEFORE the Rendezvous)

Now exit the map and zoom out to the point where you can see your rocket and the station

If you can't, you either are too soon till the Rendezvous or too late after the Rendezvous.

If you get visual contact with the Station you will imminently notice the station is moving slightly in the Other direction and Faster than you, make sure to match your speed with the station by rotating via RCS and firing up your engines, BE GENTLE but FAST ENOUGH so you won't miss, collide, or loose visual track of the station. Don't rush, since you will match your speed eventually. After matching the speed, turn off the Engines and get closed to the station using the RCS. As you get closer, zoom more in and in.
After getting close to the station, release the non-station part of your rocket and use the RCS to connect the docking ports (It may take some time and precision to do so)

After some time, you should successfully dock with the station.
If you didn't understand some parts, or failed at some point, make sure to check out the video I have provided as an reference.
