The O-3 Mariposa: Flap in comfort!

Description:
The O-3 Mariposa is my second "dragonfly" configuration ornithopter, pursuing improved performance and reduced shaking over the proceeding meadowhawk. The big differences here:

--No more need for a mountain of special instructions! Without reading on, you should be able to load and fly the Mariposa without too much difficulty.

--Shake has been reduced to the extent that you can now safely, easily walk around the aircraft while in flight

Stuff for nerds:
- Specifics -
Speaking technically, we now have an extra hinge per wing, extra weight at the root of the wing (seems to improve hinge performance; beats me why), and changes in distribution of the wings longitudinally and vertically. The wing sets have been split vertically to top-oriented-straight and bottom-oriented-up, which goes a long way to centralizing the thrust line and reducing the takeoff nose-over tendency suffered by the meadowhawk. They've also been moved closer together longitudinally: a move that was blindingly obvious in retrospect. The overwhelming majority of the shake comes from control surface deflection and not newtonian reaction. The wings are always pitched opposite each other, so obviously the further apart they are, the more arm they'll have and more pitch shake they'll create. Beyond me how I didn't think of this when building the Meadowhawk, but it's reconciled here. I also discovered that Stormworks actually simulates moments of inertia, so it helps with pitch shake to push your mass out as far from the center as possible, so there's some strategically-placed ballast in here.

Like my other ornithopters, this is a no-cheating, no-XML edits ornithopter, though I do intend to experiment with XML-edited hinges on other vehicles in the future.

Features in this version:
-67/75 knot cruise speed, depending on blade angle
-Variable Angle of Incidence (Top center monitor)
-60 km Range without generator
-Diesel/electric configuration
-Decently responsive controls
-minimalistic but useful avionics suite
-Dual-Axis GPS autopilot
-Full interior

Operation:
I strongly recommend watching the provided guide video for a detailed explanation on how to get the most out of the Mariposa

oh i have turned on high physics detail and its working better! btw i love the movie balto, very good

Are you in high physics detail? The mariposa should be fairly easy to manage, but all my ornithopters are designed to operate in high physics detail

i cant take off any tips

"extra weight at the root of the wing (seems to improve hinge performance; beats me why)"
i would assume its because the centre of mass is closer to the point of rotation, the hinge now doesnt have to swing the CoM as far so it can do it faster for the same energy, also its no longer moving the CoM as far so you will have smaller vibrations.

"if the meadowhawk was so good then where is the meadowhawk 2?"
this guy: "I gotchu fam"

I've got some ideas on the hovering / 6DoF front, but it'll take some engineering.

im going to ask for three thing

a version one that can land on water

if possible a cargo version that can lift container maybe ?

and maybe a version that can hover in place and be able to recover thing on the ground where other plane or heli can't go and land

how do you fly this??
