Kinda neat that you pointed this out. I've been using this for years and it is the 'magic' that I do to quickly unclog my friends backed up refinery. Another trick that I've used before is setting up conveyor sorters on the input and output lines to my refineries. I will leave them blacklist with the filters blank which lets them act like normal conveyors. Then when I have something that I either want or don't want them to process, I just set the input conveyor appropriately. Then, as long as your output feeds back into your normal storage system, you can pull out the ore that you want to stop and it won't pull more back in.

Yes. ALSO, your refineries will pull ore from the closest cargo containers it can mechanically reach until all the ore in that location is used up. So labeling your cargo containers in reference to how close they are to your refineries AS WELL AS limiting the pathing from your refinery to cargo containers allows for much easier management of refineries. By sub-dividing your cargo nearest cargo container's inventory, you can also control the quantity and type of ingots being produced without using mods or scripts... very helpful on official Keen servers where mods and scripts can't be used.
