This guide will help you run Quake II RTX with addons - Quake II: The Reckoning and Quake II: Ground Zero using a proper launcher.

*This solution is not fully working! For more info about it go to the comments section on the bottom of the page.

Important!
First make sure you have Quake II: The Reckoning and Quake II: Ground Zero installed on your PC.

Secondly why to use Quake II RTX instead of your standard Quake II? Basically, it's improved version of our favourite game with widescreen support, higher screen resolution, much better lighting, improved textures and some additional tweaks. Of course you can run the game in OpenGL if you don't have RTX graphic card with forementioned updates except ray tracing and HD textures.

Let's set this up!

1. Go to this website https://www.skacikpl.pl/projects#Q2RTXL and scroll down to Quake 2 RTX Launcher. Download the launcher (don't worry it's safe).

2. Locate your Quake II RTX intallation path (it's usually in here - drive:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Quake II RTX). Now find the file q2rtx.exe and rename it to q2rtxgame.exe.

3. Now extract the donloaded archive directly to your Quake II RTX directory.

4. Copy folders rogue and xatrix from your Quake 2 directory to your Quake II RTX folder.

DONE! Now you can launch the game and choose whatever addons you like.

Notice, the launcher was not made by me I am just explaining how to use it.

All I did Was copy the Xatrix and rogue folders (from quake 2 enhanced) to my Q2 RTX folder then edited the bat files.
ie. .\q2rtx.exe +set game rogue The problem is the quad etc and lift dont work on the first level.
The reckoning..\q2rtx.exe +set game xatrix You dont see the creatures. the rest of the enemys work fine. Does look good though. Also i remember fixing the issue in Q2 berserker ages ago. sorry I cant remember. i will look into it though. Dll issue with kmquake.

Guys please help, how can I launch updated quake 2 remaster with RTX? They added new campaign "Call of the Machine" there :steamhappy:

I think what would solve this is a reference email to the RTX creators that shows us trying to remedy this and pointing to this thread about the issue.

Nope, some of the new models from addons are not in the game, I suppose it could be fix somehow if someone knows how.

I tried extracting pak files and moving the missing files to single pak file however it didn't solve this. I guess the main reason might be inside the exe file itself...

Confirmed. Looks like the new models from expansion packs are missing somehow. Maybe the game doesn't even load them. If anyone know how to solve this issue it would be much appreciated!
