Before you go out and collect materials, you should have a target ship that you wanted to build. But if you do not yet know what to build, then the following list might help you keep potentially valuable items. You can find all sorts of mineral on some of the FTA Hub stations.

Top Rank Material:
These are the elements you absolutely do not want to sell because they are hard to find and are used in ship building and/or weapon upgrading. Try to seek them out and buy them actively. I will list the minimum number you should keep in your storage.
- TP-Energy-cells (top priority. Buy it actively, at least keep 30. Some stations such as COC Riga have this item.)
All energy cells can be crafted on Tessus Research Station using two types of ingredients.

- Plutonium (as much as you can get. 80 for big ships. )
- Thorium (same as above)
- Vi-alloy (need around 30)

Second Rank Material:
These are easier to find, but you still need to keep some of them for ship making.
- Vanadium ( upward of 150)
- Iron (a relatively cheap item, but you need around 150 for big ships)
- Titanium (around 30)
- Deuterium (same as above)
- Plasma (same)
- Molybdenum (same)
- MT-alloy (keep it as you see it,low priority )
- AT-alloy (keep it as you see it,low priority )
- VT-alloy (keep it as you see it,low priority )
- TD-Energy-cell (keep it as you see it,low priority )
- H3D-Energy-cell (keep it as you see it,low priority )

Some of the minerals in the game have no use other than text flavor and money. I will try to list the safest items to sell here(again, wip):

-Diamond (good for money)
-Gemstones
-Gold
-Silver
-any other minerals that were not listed in the two sections above

Some of the blueprint of ships will be listed here. They are mostly pirate ships. When the crafted ship sells cheaper than the blueprint itself, than it is better to sell the blueprint if you do not want the ship (the number behind the ship's name is ship's selling price):
