Game Basics
First thing to know about completing Myst is to know how to get to the different worlds. One being the world from the boat, one from the rocket ship, , one from the giant gear, and one from the tree. On the main island the note on the ground may not seem important, but it sheds some incite on the game. Your biggest clues will come when you walk around the island and turn all switches to the "on* position. Doing so would give you access to be able to pertain certain clues on how to get to that certain world. When in the room with the red and blue book you will see a map like painting it is the island and if you have all the switches on all of those things should show up on your map and with that you should be able to rotate a tower on that map. Now let's say you want to go to the world within the boat. Simply drag the line until it gets over the boat. If the line is red you're off to a good start. After you've done this you'll see two pictures on the wall one of the door going outside and one of a bookshelf. Clicking the one of the bookshelf will make a secret passage, but block the outside which is exactly what you want. Walk through that passage in the book case until you see an elevator. When you go up you'll see a ladder and a picture of a book don't worry about that just walk around until you see a ladder with a picture of a key that is your target. With the boat lit up on the map it should show some specific dates. Keep note on those dates they are important. Also keep note on everything you encounter it may come into play later. Now with those dates go back down and get outside of course to do that just click on the picture of the door. Now go outside and right next door there is a small building and inside you'll see what looks like a dentist chair now this is where the dates come into play with the device over the chair enter the specific dates and it should show a specific constellation. If you can keep note of those constellations. After that is done go back to the previous building and look in the bookshelf it holds so many clues that should be written down for later on. In one of the books there should be some pictures of constellations. You should be able to find the constellations that correspond with the ones from the machine so hopefully you made note of it. In that book there would be an image of a snake, leaf, beetle so with that right outside you'll see a small fountain with a little boat inside of it, but also you'll see some square things and each has a different icon on it. Now just look for the snake, leaf, and beetle and make sure they're on the green position because if the theory is correct and you've done everything correct so far that little boat in the fountain should come up which is exactly what you want to happen because that brings up the much larger boat in the front of the whole game. Now you should be able to get to the boat and your should be able to find the book that will transport you to the next world. Side note next to the red and blue books is a loose page placing them in the books will reveal the antagonists of the story and the storyline progresses every time you find the page pertaining to that certain book.
Stoneship Age
Now if everything was done correctly you should be able to get on the sunken ship and in the ship quarters you should see a book opening the book will transport you to the next world. Pat yourself on the back you just made it to the first world. Now mind you in the other worlds things to get tricky so take note of everything you do and anything you see. First things first on a platform on the island you'll see three buttons and they are very important, but first walk into the first building and you should see a ladder that's locked and a key that locked into the ground. Now right there should be a stairway go down there and you should see a wooden chest and a random faucet turn that one very important. Now back to the buttons. If pushing the right button the water from the place you were just in should rise and the chest should have come up with it. Now you can open it up with that locked key and when opened will reveal the other key. Hey guess what that's the key to get into the tower. Going into the tower there will be a crank and what looks like big batteries. Pull the crank until the battery meter looks full. Now go back down and there should be two passage ways, but they will be flooded. Just go back to those buttons and if you're lucky clicking on the correct button should drain the water out and if you're lucky the path should be lit up and you should find a side door walk though that door. Now if you want for a more complete story before going into that side door further down is a room with a red or blue page. Both can be pertained within both tunnels. In one of those rooms at end of the tunnels you should find in a drawer with half a note. Keep note of it because it is very important later on. So now back to that side entrance you should be able to get access to a room with a big circular thing on the ground and a bunch of buttons. If you click the correct button and it should be able to get you access to the main island before you go make sure you have a red or blue page only one can be carried at a time. When you're ready go to the buttons and one should be able to unflood a passge into the quarters of the boat giving you access back to the main island. Place whatever page you got and go back and repeat everything here so you can put the other page in the other book and get more storyline. Now if everything is good. you've just completed the first world.
Mechanical Age
Once you're back on the main island go to the map picture to rotate the tower to the giant gear. If done right when you go through the book case again you should get the next clue with the key ladder. The clue will indicate a time. Go down to the tower and you should see a box with two wheels and a button crank the wheels until the time is the same as what it said on the key ladder if lined up correctly push the button a walkway should appear. Go to the switch turn it on and go through the door in the door you should be able to gain access to the next book that is now accessable at the giant gear. Transporting to this book takes you to the mechanical age. Here you will see a big building and very close by a device with buttons with strange shapes. That will come into play later on. Go to the big building and go directly left down a long hallway. There you will see what looks like a throne room. On one wall you will see a mechanical bird and what looks like tapestry there is a secret door there will you will find another page for the red book. Now going back down the hallway there should be a side entrance to an elevator that will not be accessible because there is a red button that goes under the floor that will allow you to get the elevator working after you've gotten the elevator going and you click the button again you should now be able to walk across to get to the elevator, but before doing any of that back in the throne room there is a mechanism that will allow you to rotate the building which you will want to do. Now going up the elevator go to the top and send the elevator down, but walk off right away. There will now be a series of buttons that will actually make the building move. Now this is where memory will come in hand for every position the building sits it will make a different sound. Knowing the sounds will help with knowing exactly where the building is pointing. With the building facing a different direction go back down and down the hall and now you should be facing a different way walking forward you should see a pillar type thing that gives you the first two clues to the strange symbol mechanism. Following this same pattern with rotating the building should get you access to the next two clues. After you've gotten all four clues rotate the building back to it's original position giving you access back to the symbol machine putting the symbols in the correct ordet and pushing the button should lower a passage way leading to a book that will transport you back to the main island. You should have the red page for the red book for the next part of the story. Now when you go back to the giant gear you should be able to go back to the mechanical age and through the building again past the throne room you should find yourself in a room that looks like a torture chamber and through another secret entrance you should be able to find the blue stage. Now since you've already should have figured out the symbol code by now you should just be able to push the button to get to the book back to the main island. Now you just add the blue page to the book and the mechanical age is complete
Selentic Age
Now let's begin the age with the rocket ship. Go back to the room with the books and the map picture and if you have the switch to the rocket ship turned on you should be able to rotate the tower to the rocket ship and through the bookcase passage way you should be able to get the next clue. Going outside there will be a brick structure going down to what looks like an underground power plant use the button to revert the power amount the clue tells you that will give you access to the rocket ship. Going into the rocket ship on one side is a piano and on the other a series of sliders and a button. In order to figure out the puzzle with this one go back to the room with the books and look through the bookshelf and go page through page until it shows a diagram of the piano that has numbers that correspond with the order of keys you need to push to get to the next age. Using that diagram push the first key and turn around to the slider board and if you can hear pitch well enough slide the slider to the exact same pitch as the same you heard on the key. Now just do this for you every key in the sequence and if done correctly you should be able to get the next book. Now on this island there are several different buttons in various stations that must be pressed. You should see a clock station, a fire station, a water station, a wind station, and I guess you could call a flute station. Now towards the start is a door with a slider system and a button. This is where the stations come into play. Walk around and click all the buttons on at the various stations. Now going through you should be able to find a path going underground up to a big device that looks like the various symbols you will see at the stations. This device will have a camera on it. Click on one of the symbol buttons you've seen on the device. Like say for example the clock click on that and pan the camera towards the clock station until the lit up green arrow goes darker that is an indicator that the camera is in the right position. Now do this for the rest of the stations with the camera. Now after all that is done click the last button on the device. Now you should be able to dial in the sounds in a specific order to get the door open. Before I go on the next red and blue pages are on this island and shouldn't be too difficult to locate. Okay now if you get the sliders to the correct sounds and in the correct order pushing the button should open the door. Now down this hallway you will find yourself in a room with what could be a submarine. Go into the submarine and sit in the driver's seat it's time to go for a ride. Now there is a few buttons on the console. Left Right forward and backtrack. Now this puzzle is based off sounds and memory. Try to go through the track and remember the sounds they will get you through the track back to the book back to the main island. Also side note if you have seen the half torn note earlier on if I'm not mistaken the other end of the note should be able to be found in one of the other eras and this note is a huge clue and vital to the end of the game. Okay now assuming you have picked up a red or blue page you should be able to put it in whatever page you grabbed and place it in it's respected book. Now just go back to the rocket ship and the book back should still be there for you to get the next page for the other book. Now if you have been paying attention to what the two guys say when you locate the next page these guys are brother who are both trying to plot against each other, but are trapped in their respected books. Also if you have noticed that the red pages are mostly found in fancy areas while the blue pages are found in more dark and evil looking places. This is basically how each brother views each other.
Channelwood Age
Now down to the last book. Go back to the room with the books and make sure the switch is turned on to a small wood structure that's a bit past the clock tower. When the tower is pointed at it just go back though the bookshelf passage way to get the next clue. Now in this wood structure you will see a furnace and a wheel. Directly behind you is a safe. Now with the clue you should have the code for the safe. Unlock it and you will see a box of matches. Grab a match for the furnace and turn the wheel. When you start to hear loud clunking sounds outside. Get outside as quickly as possible right next to the wood structure is a giant tree that is progressively bringing down an elevator type thing get on it as quickly as possible to be able to get all the way underground. Mind you if you miss it you'll have to reactivate the furnace. Now once you get down there you will find the next book. Transporting you to some kind of bog with a series of trees bridges, pipes, a couple elevators and in the distance is a windmill on a hill. Go to the wind mill first. In the windmill structure is a faucet turning it on will activate the water to the various pipes across the bridges. Now this might be a tricky part for some. You should be able to see switches through the pipes those switches determine the direction of water flow. Now first step going through the bridges you may find a dead end, but if you are able to get the water running in that direction there is a switch there and you should be able to hear a motor running. That indicates that the water is going to that switch. Flick the switch and a bridge comes up there will be a elevator, but it won't work since there's no water to power it, but right behind that is a crank that will extend a pipe. Now using memory and a little sense of direction you should be able to figure out how to get water flowing to where you want to go. I would first try to get the elevator that's beyond the bridge you just brought up. If you hear the motor on that elevator good job it's powered up. Now go in that elevator and be sure to close the door I've made that mistake and it drove me crazy. Now up that elevator you will find yourself in the trees with little huts. Navigate your way through the trees and in one of the huts you should be able to find a switch that switch will lead to another elevator and a door next to it that doesn't seem to open, but flicking the switch should open a door down a spiral staircase and you should be easily be able to unlock the door at the bottom. Now get the water flow to go right in the direction you came from at the spiral staircase. That switch will power up the elevator right at the top of the stairway. Go in the elevator make sure you close the door and it will take you further up. Now just walk around and in the huts you should be able to find the next red and blue pages. Once you've gotten one of them go all the way back down the surface and get the water flow to the other elevator on the surface. This elevator leads you to the book back to the main island. Now once you've done one of the pages go all the way back and try to follow the same pattern to get the other page and put it in the other book once you've been able to get back to the book in the other elevator. Now pay close attention to what either of the brothers tell you, but be warned they'll try manipulate you. Through this clue they tell you on the book shelf you will find a book with a bunch of square patterns. They both will tell you go to page 158. If you need to take a screenshot of that exact page, but first if you have found both sides of the ripped page in the game you should be able to find one of the biggest clues in the game. Reading the clue will tell you to switch on all the switches on the island, but one should be turned off. Turn on all the switches, but turn off the switch near the boat. Doing so will open a compartment that will reveal a page that you might have not have thought of. Now before I go on I wanted to point out that on the main island there is a note sitting on the grass saying to enter the number of switches on the island to get a message. Now to get this message right behind the boat is a door and in the middle of the room there is what looks like some random little pool thing. Now you should have counted 8 switches right behind you is another console is a thing you can dial specific numbers into. Now since we know there are 8 switches on the island dial in 08 on the console and press the button it will beep a few times and the cover will shut on the console. Now on the pool type thing is a button. Press that button and you will get the elusive message.
Ending
*Spoiler alert warning*
Read with caution ending will be revealed. Now if you took a snapshot of page 158 from the book with the square patterns you should now be able to proceed to the next and final part. In the room with the books you will see a fireplace go into the fireplace and click the red button that will bring down a door on the door is like metal slab. Now clicking on the slab will make squares appear. Take the pattern from page 158 and make the squares appear exactly like in the picture. If this done correctly clicking the red button will activate another elevator. Now you should see a green book you didn't even think existed this whole time and one red page and one blue page. Each of these things will give you three different endings. So let's start with the good more happy ending. Click on the green book. Be sure you already have that page you should have gotten from the hidden switch compartment. This book will now transport you to a whole new place in the big room you're now in you will see a man sitting at a table writing. This man is Atrus and you might have seen his name appear from time to time through various clues. Atrus will reveal the man in the red and blue books are his son's that he trapped in those books because of greed and deceit and what not. Now when talking to Atrus he will ask you to give him the page you found. He will tell you he'll be back he will place the page you gave him into a book and vanish. Now when he comes back there will be a book on the table going back to the main island. Going back you may notice something a bit different. The red and blue books will appear to be gone and a burn mark the walls where the books once sat. Well turns out Atrus went back to destroy the books that pretty much killed his two sons. Now give yourself a round of applause my friend you have officially finished Myst, but hold on there's more. Now if you were to go through the entire game step by step and instead of accessing the green book at the end, but instead grabbed the red or blue page. This will give you one of two bad endings depending whatever page you decided to go with now back downstairs. Enter the final page into whatever one you chose and guess what you just failed. You just freed one of the brothers whichever one you chose to go with and now you are trapped in the book. Good job moron. Just kidding, but hopefully this helps some people navigate themselves through one of the most complex and confusing games of our childhood.
