The error seems to occur due to missing files (minit_v1.sav) on startup while online. Probably occurs most frequently for new users.

To fix this:
  1. Start the game up in Offline Mode
  2. Start a new game while in Offline Mode

After that you should be able to close the game and run it online.

Just go to the game folder and rename 2 "steam..." files there into any other names, even add or delete one letter.
After this my game working with no problems.

This didn't solve the issue for me; in the end I copied over the contents of C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Minit to a new folder (c:\temp\minit), renamed steam_api.dll and steam_appid.txt to x_steam_api.dll and x_steam_appid.txt (not sure if that was necessary) and the game works if I boot it from that folder.

This guide didn't work for me at first, but then I found out that Steam's offline mode doen't help with this, I had to take the whole device offline.

Thank you for this. The way it worked for me was to open the Minit files, close Steam, then launch via the files.

When I start the game it comes up in a window so tiny that the text and graphics are completely garbled. Verifying my files didn't fix things, nor did a few common keys to enter fullscreen. Anyone else seen this
