The game matches you based on your Score in Ranked, and based on your Deck power AND Winrate in Casual.
Don't "Run the faction that is your strongest till you lose". This game is not designed to play one faction that you like the most, because if you do that, you will remain in the lowest ranks and hinder your progress severely.
For most efficiency you need to have 5 factions at a decent power levels. You ranked score is calculated based on your top 4 factions. Then you use your 5th to drop in and out of the Top4, and push the ranks without losing points that you already have.
The game match makes in rank based on your score with that faction. Run the faction that is strongest for you until you start to lose and then switch to your next strongest faction. As you run through this cycle you will gain more cards and resources.
The Campaign starts out easy so even as a new player you will get through the first couple of rounds. The rewards will come from the two factions involved in the campaign, so you can build up your collection.
My final advice is that the game gives decent rewards that aren't tied to winning. Of course it is fun to win all the time, but if you are having a tough streak focus on the Kill Pack and Daily Objectives.
Have fun!
