They would be worse off as the hider. They could prolly smell yer ass a mile away, and or, hear you breathing, shuffling, etc.
Got amazingly lucky and found a system with 6 body armor factories in my current save. Supplied it plasma cells and now I can do a manual trading run with 5-7K body armor every few hours. Money is not a constraint in that galaxy.
I do believe the assembly block is still required in at least some form - I believe it is quite similar to how the transponder or docking block works. I've never tested the assembly block in-depth; however, generally, the bigger and better it is, the bigger and better the results.
Pro-tip: In most Avorion wikis, you can check the history to determine when it was last edited. Usually, any page that is older than 2019 won't be really helpful. The page I linked was last edited late 2020, so this information is still pretty good.
For example, I wonder if that bit about assembly blocks speeding up production is still valid; now that I read it, ISTR you had to have at least some in the past, but AFAICT, at least as of 1.3, stations don't really need them (don't take as fact, I seem to happen to always have a few somewhere... )
I didn't realise they might have an actual effect so haven't experimented with them; have you verified it independently yourself?
I wasn't aware that you could have more than 3 stations docked and still be able to produce from the fourth station. The discussion mentioned something about having a maximum of three, but that part had always confused me and so I never got around to testing more than three.
I admit I only glanced over that bit and as such apparently have missed the mentioning ;)
I have only recently started to experiment with complexes but found them reasonably easy to set up and very efficient.
Thank Steam's 1k char limit for there not following a wall of text helpful dissertation...
Built four CXs so far, will expand some of them with the mines they import from, and continue to convert other groups of stations. Most work involved is prepping and not making it look like a complete hack job. Don't know any prefabs from the workshop, pointers welcome...
Totally worth the effort in my opinion.
