Anyway, the ratio should be 3-4 CVs per 1 BB/BC, and 3-4 escorts per capital ship. Hence a small max efficiency fleet would be 3 CVs, 1 BB and 12-16 escorts. Consider CAs as anti-escort cruisers, CLs as allrounder and DDs as
torpedo spammers/Anti-Submarine Warfare platform.
AA platform if you want them to. Generally I would advise to mix a bit, for example at least 1-2 heavy cruisers per escort group is a good idea. As Japan having a mix of allrounder CLs, torpedo CLs and A A CLs with some torp and
AA DDs is a good idea afaik, for the US though pure A A CLs and DDs can work.
Even if torpedoes aren't really used anymore, as they're largely obsolete in favor of guided missiles...
